Summary

A survey indicates that a significant number of Americans prioritize sleep over sex due to sleep deprivation.

Abstract

The article titled "Quickie: Do You Choose Sleep Over Sex?" discusses the prevalence of sleep deprivation in America, revealing that many individuals would rather get a good night's sleep than engage in sexual activity. According to a survey by the Better Sleep Council, 60 percent of 1,000 Americans surveyed expressed a stronger desire for sleep than for sex with their partner. The preference for sleep is particularly pronounced among women, with 79 percent choosing sleep over sex, compared to 42 percent of men. The sleep deprivation is so severe that some respondents reported falling asleep in various unusual places, including work, school, and even during sexual activity. The article also suggests that the lack of sleep can lead to napping in unconventional settings, highlighting the extent of the sleep crisis in American society.

Opinions

  • The majority of surveyed Americans (60 percent) crave sleep more than sex, indicating a significant sleep deprivation issue.
  • There is a notable gender disparity in sleep versus sex preferences, with a higher percentage of women (79 percent) prioritizing sleep over men (42 percent).
  • Sleep deprivation has become so severe for some that it interferes with their daily activities, leading to unintentional napping in places like work, school, and even during sex.
  • The article implies that the societal expectation of balancing work, stress, and an active sex life is unrealistic for many, given the current sleep deprivation crisis.
  • The Better Sleep Council's survey results underscore the importance of addressing sleep health as a critical component of overall well-being.

In a perfect world, we’d all have enough time and stamina for great sex with our partner and then a great night’s sleep as we bask in the orgasm afterglow. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world, we live in a world where we’re stretched thin for time, stressed out, and extremely sleep deprived.

And this sleep deprivation is so bad sometimes that when given a choice, many people will pick sleep over sex.

Sleep deprivation is so bad sometimes that when given a choice, many people will pick sleep over sex.

According to a survey of 1,000 Americans conducted by the Better Sleep Council, 60 percent report that they crave a good night’s sleep over sex with their partner. In fact, some survey respondents are so desperate for slumber that they have actually fallen asleep while doing the deed.

However, the prevalence of sleep versus sex cravings differed among men and women, with 79 percent of women and 42 percent of men saying they wanted sleep over sex, while 58 percent of men and 21 percent of women said they wanted sex over sleep.
