Quickie: Is Your Partner Hoarding Snacks?

Study shows that if snacks are going missing, chances are there’s a clear culprit

You wake up in the middle of the night, stomach grumbling. You would love a quick snack, but when you roll out of bed and make that dark trek to the kitchen, you find that all the chocolate chip cookie goodness is gone. “Did I eat them all already?” you ask yourself as you sleepily drag your exhausted body back to bed.

Although you may be tempted to believe you had a forgettable binge that cleared the cupboard, chances are, according to a study by Stuffed Puffs, you’re wrong — your partner is the real culprit who took the cookies and hid them in their own private snack stash.

“No one wants all the good snacks to disappear….”

After asking 2,000 people whether or not they hide their favorite snacks from the rest of the family, 48 percent admitted they do have a secret hiding place for their favorite snacks — and they intend to keep it a delicious secret.

The most common reasons for having a secret stash of snacks are because people don’t want to share (46 percent) and they are afraid the snacks will be gobbled up entirely by others in the household if they don’t hide them (53 percent).

“Trust me, as a mom of three, I’ve attempted to hide my favorite snacks too,” said Carla O’Brien, SVP of Marketing at Stuffed Puffs. “We weren’t surprised so many people have a secret hiding spot for their snacks — I get it, no one wants all the good snacks to disappear before eating any.”

Your partner may be hiding snacks from you, but this survey provides an idea of where to find them. Respondents said the most common hiding places for snacks were the inside of oatmeal containers, and behind the washing machine or books on a bookshelf.
