Summary

Surveys reveal that the most popular days and times for couples to engage in sexual activity are weekends, particularly Fridays and Saturdays, with Sunday mornings and late Saturday nights also being favored.

Abstract

According to a survey by Adam & Eve, the majority of respondents prefer having sex on weekends, with 23% choosing Friday and 35% opting for Saturday. A study by Superdrug further specifies that in the United Kingdom, peak times for intimacy are Sunday at 9:00 a.m. and Saturday at 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. While some couples schedule their intimate moments, others value spontaneity. The surveys also indicate that the least preferred times for sex are typically Monday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. Dr. Jenni Skyler, a sexologist at Adam & Eve, emphasizes the importance of couples making time for intimacy, whether it's a planned encounter or a spontaneous one.

Opinions

  • Spontaneity in sexual encounters is considered sexier and more desirable than scheduling sex for some couples.
  • The concept of scheduling sex is seen as a practical solution for busy couples to ensure they maintain intimacy.
  • Dr. Jenni Skyler advocates for the prioritization of intimate time for couples, suggesting that it can be a lazy Sunday afternoon or a quick Wednesday night rendezvous.
  • Despite the general preference for weekend sex, individual preferences vary widely, with some people enjoying weekday evenings or early mornings.
  • The least favorite times for sexual activity are often during weekday afternoons and evenings, possibly due to work-related stress and fatigue.

When Do People Prefer to Have Sex?

It’s no secret that people generally have a lot on their plate, and sometimes finding the time to get it on in the bedroom can be difficult. Some couples will schedule their lovemaking in order to handle this problem, but for others, spontaneity is a lot sexier than treating intimacy like another business meeting.

So when do couples find the time to have spontaneous sex?

Not surprisingly, according to a survey of 1,000 Americans by Adam & Eve, the most popular days to have sex are Friday and Saturday. The breakdown of respondents’ preferred sex days throughout the week are:

  • Sunday (12 percent)
  • Monday (9 percent)
  • Tuesday (9 percent)
  • Wednesday (6 percent)
  • Thursday (6 percent)
  • Friday (23 percent)
  • Saturday (35 percent)

“Couples need to make time for their relationships — whether it’s a lazy Sunday afternoon or a quick romp on a Wednesday night — it’s important to find the time to be intimate.”

If you want more specific information about when people prefer to get down and dirty, a study conducted by Superdrug has pinpointed not only the days of the week that are most popular, but also the times of day. When researchers asked 2,000 people in the United Kingdom when they prefer to have sex, the top answers were:

  • Sunday, 9:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, 10:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, 11:30 p.m.
  • Friday, 10:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, 10:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, 11:30 a.m.
  • Friday, 10:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, 11:15 p.m.
  • Saturday, 9:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, 9:30 p.m.

In addition, participants were asked when they least like having sex with their partner, and their responses were:

  • Monday, 4:45 p.m.
  • Monday, 3:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, 9:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, 8:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, 1:30 p.m.
  • Monday, 8:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, 7:30 a.m.
  • Friday, 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, 5:00 p.m.

Although people have their likes and dislikes about when to have sex, the most important thing, says Adam & Eve resident sexologist Dr. Jenni Skyler, is that couples find the time to share intimacy with each other.

“Couples need to make time for their relationships — whether it’s a lazy Sunday afternoon or a quick romp on a Wednesday night — it’s important to find the time to be intimate,” Skyler explained.
