Misuse of Cerebral Capabilities Might Adversely Affect Individuals and Society.
Our greatness comes from understanding and accepting how little we know.

We are so tiny in this vast universe. Our lives are ephemeral. Yet, we think that we are constant and the whole universe revolves around us. The danger of little knowledge causing false beliefs is a fundamental problem in our society.
Our knowledge is not even a single drop in a vast ocean. In other words, we know nothing substantial beyond our five senses. However, our cognitive system fills in the gaps, and using patterns, we code wrong information. Then these pieces of false information turn into deceptive beliefs.
Billions of people lived before us. There are billions still living to survive. We accumulated bits and pieces of knowledge by interpreting data filtered through the five senses formulated with words with our cognitive capability. Some of us see these knowledge constructs as absolute reality.
Our cerebral capabilities make our lives miserable. Our unrefined intellect causes many problems. We unintendedly transform our intelligence into a curse causing harm to ourselves and others. Misuse of our cognitive capability becomes the problem rather than a solution tool.
The statement “I don’t know” empowers us. This simple remark is the basis of science. When we admit we don’t know something, our intuition inspires us to find out about it using our senses and intellect. However, when we become arrogant, we create false memories which become our reality.
Even though pure science aims to add clarity to perceptions, we use science as a productivity tool with the contributions of technology. So modern science, with the empowerment of technology, turned into a productivity tool. As a result, we learned more about doing things without understanding their nature and purposes for our well-being.
For example, if a piece of research teaches us how to do something, we consider it good science and fund the research. But, on the other hand, if hypotheses proven wrong and produce no economic outcome, the scientists get no incentive for further investigation.
We think that science has made enormous progress in understanding nature. However, the more research we conduct, the more complexity we identify. We developed technology tools such as a microscope to see the tiniest objects and a telescope to see the outer part of the earth. Yet, hundreds of years of research still cannot explain the life form.
Even though technology makes significant progress by extending the capabilities of our senses, technological breakthroughs do not add any additional senses. Sometimes, these enhanced capabilities also create more issues at individual and societal levels.
Some of us think about our greatness without even realizing the significance of other billions of souls on this earth. Our limited identities blind us. As a result, we have a false sense of confidence and assurance. So, little knowledge creates a problem for our collective well-being.
Nothing is absolute in nature. Everything constantly changes. Even though we are multidimensional beings, we mainly use logic to make sense of the world. Experiences can be gained from various other inputs from the body.
Science attempted to go to the subatomic level through quantum physics and inspiration from spiritual teachings and philosophies. We made good progress, but we got stuck. Everything became nothing as we further delved into the details of subatomic objects.
As human beings, we are fortunate and privileged to have a cognitive system. This system certainly helps us survive when appropriately used in the physical domain. However, exclusive and misuse of our cognitive system puts us in a vulnerable state.
False beliefs caused by miscoded information cause pride and arrogance. We not only destroy our health and well-being, but we also cause misery to people around us. I consider these false memories in the body and brain as our karma: The Role of Karma in Mental Health and Well-Being: Meaning of karma for self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-love, and self-esteem — a personal perspective.
Just by accepting our limitations, embracing uncertainty, listening to other perspectives, and admitting what we don’t know, we can explore new things, tolerate people better, create compassion, improve our relationships, produce better results for society, and maintain our physical and mental health.
