I enjoy amplifying stories of writers contributing to my publications. This is an initiative to create more collaboration among writers.
To this end, I proposed a writing challenge in my editorial bulletin on 24/06/2020. It is inspiring that 30-plus writers participated in the challenge and have already submitted their fabulous stories. You can access and review them from the attached link.
I also proposed another challenge by extending this one in my editorial bulletin on 26/06/2020. The purpose of the second writing challenge is to add another dimension by reviewing these self-assessed stories. These two exercises are intended to create vitality by cross-pollinating ideas among our writers.
The first writer who took the challenge was Tree Langdon ♾️ who reviewed the fascinating stories of Jennifer Geer. This story is unique to me as I follow both writers closely, whose stories inspire and make me think deeply. You can access this excellent review story by Tree in the attached link.
To get the ball rolling, I took the challenge myself and reviewed great stories of Bill Abbate. This is a sample review to give an idea to our writers to meet the second writing challenge.
My Review of Bill Abbate’s Selected Stories

I have been following Bill for relatively longer and reading his articles since joining Medium. Bill’s content concerns leadership development, leadership coaching, and life lessons.
The first story that Bill referenced was titled “Regret”. Since Bill submitted this story, I have read it three times. The story was well-received by ILLUMINATION readers and gained 3.3K claps and 26 comments.
At the age of fifty-one, Bill became a widower. His wife had gotten cancer, and the first diagnosis gave her three to five years to live. The disease spread quickly through her body, and they shortened the outlook to eighteen months. Within six months, her wife sadly passed.
Bill made a powerful statement “I believe that death is not the end — and I also know that to fail to live our lives with purpose can bring many regrets”.
To extend this view, Bill provided an insightful quote from Jim Rohn, who said “We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is, discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.”
Bill asked a question, “do I ever look back?” and his answer was “only occasionally to remind myself of how extremely blessed I am in the present!”
Bill’s second story was his writer bio submitted to the repository of ILLUMINATION writers.
Bill added a nostalgic photo from 1961 when he was at a Scout Jamboree to this story. The photo appeared in the La Times.
Bill has lived a very different life compared to most Americans. He grew up all over the USA and the world. As a navy brat, he moved from Virginia to California when he was six years old, then to Japan, Hawaii, and Malta. During those years, Bill learned Japanese, Italian and Maltese.
Career-wise, after serving in the US Navy, Bill went on to work for mostly foreign-owned U.S.-based companies. During his 45-year career, Bill worked for two British, three German, one Scandinavian, and two American companies. He had the opportunity to serve as the lead executive (President/CEO or Managing Director positions) in one British, two German, and one American companies.
We learn from this story that Bill experienced a severe heart attack but fortunately recovered quickly and continued his blessed life. Just after this incident, Bill published his first book, titled “Uncommon Sense.” I found the book on Amazon and added it to my reading list.

The third story I reviewed titled “How to Improve Little Things in Your life”.
In this story, Bill offers a simple four-step process: Notice (see it), Pay attention (what are you doing or not doing, and what is triggering it?), Name it (give the behavior a name to make it real), and Modify or change the behavior (you are now positioned to work on the behavior). Bill is capable of simplifying complex topics.
The fourth story I reviewed from Bill’s collection was titled “How to Make the Best Use of Your Time”.
In this story, Bill introduces a decision or priority matrix popularized by Steven Covey in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in 1989. I loved the remarkable representation and abstraction in this matrix and copied it here for my readers’ review.

And the fifth story from Bill’s collection was titled “How to Create Anything You Want in Life”.
In this story, Bill introduces to us a system that he has used for some time that worked extraordinarily well for him. The system comes out of the work of Robert Fritz titled “The Path of Least Resistance”. Bill walks through each of the Worksheet sequentially. I extracted this excellent diagram from the story to give an idea on the five steps that Bill articulated.

Conclusions
These five stories provided me with different perspectives coming from the vast leadership and life experience of Bill Abbate. I enjoyed reading these stories multiple times because they provided me with additional insights.
I highly recommend readers who are interested in the leadership domain follow Bill. You will be impressed by the way Bill simplifies the complicated topics in an articulated manner.
I also had the privilege of interviewing Bill and would like to share this excellent interview story to extend my findings on the great work of Bill Abbate.
