Pinterest for Medium Stories
How to Get Started with Pinterest and Amplify Your Medium Stories
Use Pinterest to create visibility for your Medium stories
We use innovative tools and social media to amplify the stories of our writers on ILLUMINATION and ILLUMINATION-Curated. Our aim is to support our writers by giving more visibility and readability to their content.
In my previous post, I introduced Quora Spaces.
In this post, I introduce Pinterest.
We use Pinterest to amplify the stories of our writers.
Both ILLUMINATION and ILLUMINATION-Curated have a presence on Pinterest; they are implemented as boards.
These Pinterest boards are available for our writers to share their Medium articles easily and reach out to a broader audience.
My aim is to guide you and get started with using Pinterest.
Let’s first understand what Pinterest is.
What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is a social media service designed to enable sharing, saving, and discovering information using photos and videos. These media types can be in a link to the resources (such as articles) and added to the Pinterest boards as pins.
How to get started with Pinterest
The first step is to create a Pinterest account.
How to create a Pinterest Account
Enter the Pinterest link to your web browser.
The link is: https://www.pinterest.com/
You have two authentication options: Google and Facebook.
Choose one of the authentication options.
How to use Pinterest
To help the writers of ILLUMINATION and ILLUMINATION-Curated, I created two Pinterest board, one for each publication.

How to add a Medium story to these boards
Adding a story to Pinterest boards is very easy.
I used multiple steps to get you started, but once you create a few pins, the whole process takes less than a minute.
Step 1
Choose the board you want to add.
For example, if you want to add your ILLUMINATION-Curated article, you go to the site https://www.pinterest.com.au/myildizmel/illumination-curated/
If you don’t have access, paste this code to your browser:
If you want to add your ILLUMINATION article, you go to the site https://www.pinterest.com.au/myildizmel/illumination-curated/
If you don’t have access, paste this code to your browser:
Step 2
Once you are on the board, click on the big + sign as show in the following screen capture.
Step 3
You will see a pop up window.
Click on the Pin.
Step 4
4.1 Copy your Medium article link.
For example, my article link is:
https://readmedium.com/tk-six-things-real-leaders-dont-do-df3b60db644d
4.2 Paste the link to the Add a destination link section.
4.3 Paste the link to Save from site
So you paste the same link to two different locations.
Step 5
When you paste to the link to the Save from site, you will see the photos from your story.
For some reasons it shows two, but you click on one of the photos.
Click on Add to Pin button.
Step 6
Click on the Publish button.
Step 7
Click on See your Pin button.
Pinterest allows you to promote your pin if you pay but for Medium stories I don’t think you need to promote.
Step 8
Click on Save button.
Then click on the ILLUMINATION-Curated button.
You will see your story pinned to the board of ILLUMINATION-Curated.
When readers click on this pin, they can access your Medium story by clicking on the medium.com link.
They can also leave comments about your story.
That is it.
You created a pin of your story on a Pinterest board.
If you have questions and require clarification, please leave a comment.
