How Modding Has Improved Grand Theft Auto 5
Modding has come such a long way that virtually a whole new game can be created out of an already existing game.

What is Grand Theft Auto?
I’d like to provide a short introduction for those who don’t know what Grand Theft Auto 5 is.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Rockstar Games. It’s set in the fictional city of Los Santos with a story mode consisting of three playable characters, Franklin, Micheal, and Trevor.
The story itself involves the three characters and an exciting criminal lifestyle. It has a delightful story which I’ve played through multiple times.
Grand Theft Auto 5 also has an online mode called Grand Theft Auto Online. Like the story mode, Grand Theft Auto Online has a criminal storyline.
Unlike the story mode, we can create our own character and play through with friends in an online lobby.
Grand Theft Auto Online constantly updates new content to keep players happy.
What is Modding?
Let me give a short introduction if you don’t know what modding in video games is. Modding is short for modification.
Modding is a wildly popular activity that essentially modifies a video game to create custom content.
Multiple games have been modded over the years, with the most popular being; Grand Theft Auto, Minecraft, Skyrim, and Garry’s Mod.
After the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, a group of developers set out a multiplayer modification framework for the game.
They called this FiveM. Essentially, it’s a modification for Grand Theft Auto 5, enabling you to play multiplayer on customized dedicated servers.
This framework enables modders to create their own modded Grand Theft Auto 5 servers easily.
How My Interest Continued in Grand Theft Auto
After playing Grand Theft Auto 5 and Online for a few years, I became bored of its repetitive gameplay and stopped playing for a while.
Then one of my gaming friends told me about FiveM. He informed me of this framework that allowed people to create custom multiplayer servers. So I immediately downloaded and installed it.
The launcher’s interface was straightforward to navigate. The first server I joined was a drifting dedicated server.
The physics were intentionally customized to make your car always drift. There were also a bunch of custom cars, maps, and modifications available to use.
The creator behind the server custom imported real-life car models and real-life race track models for all players to enjoy.
I spent hours with a few friends on this server, just drifting around in our favorite cars. It was a blast. Something I thought I could never do on Grand Theft Auto.
Recently I started playing with a few friends on an RP (Roleplay) server. A roleplay server’s primary purpose is to stay in character no matter what when we’re playing and talking in-game.
When we first join, we are prompted to create our character and give ourselves a sensible first and last name.
We can then choose a job for ourselves, such as a butcher, taxi driver, fuel runner, police officer, and paramedic.
Much like the real world, we have to get specific qualifications, such as a driver’s license. For example, I got my driver’s license and then started working as a butcher.
I took a work truck to a slaughterhouse, gathered meat, and delivered it to restaurants. We can buy houses, cars, and other interesting things with the money we make from our jobs.
There are also frequent car meets that fellow players host. They can be very amusing to participate in while in character.
Interestingly I once got in an altercation and got shot by another player, which forced me to call an ambulance for myself.
The paramedic took me to a hospital where I got surgery and survived. The player that shot me was caught by the police and sent to prison.
I thought that incident was very amusing in the game.
Final Words
In conclusion, I’m grateful for modders because they allowed me to have fun in a game that I previously got bored of.
Modding has come such a long way that virtually a whole new game can be created out of an already existing game.
If you own Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC, you might try out FiveM. Unfortunately, it is only available to people who already own the game on PC.
Grand Theft Auto is a controversial game. Even though I love it, some people dislike it. Some even want it to be banned.
I read an article from Dr Mehmet Yildiz about allegations of banning. He provides a neutral perspective as he supports all sorts of games for brain development. Here is the link to his article for interested readers.
Thank you for reading my story.

Today, I am feeling much better. For those readers who missed previous stories, I got infected with the Covid virus and was unwell. Gaming helped a lot during this isolation period. Here is the link to the story.
