Hello Globetrotters!

How is everyone doing?

😱👻🐈‍⬛🙀🎃🦇😨💀

October is here… so glad we all made it successfully past September! Not that it’s a bad month or anything, and we had plenty of lovely food stories to get us through here at Globetrotters.

But now it’s time for something a bit different… something maybe just a little more… spooky. Been anticipating our October prompt for months now, as I think we first got the idea to do it way back in May, if I believe, and it’s finally here! So excited!

But first…

Thanks Adrienne! 💖

Medium News

A couple of weeks ago now Medium announced updates to the distribution system:

They also published updates to the Medium Distribution Standards article:

One thing that will be no more is seeing the “Chosen for further distribution” verbiage on stories. There’s of course been a lot of chitter chatter about this on the platform, but it is what it is. Like it or lump it.

One change I was ecstatic to see was this addition:

Copyrighted images — Writers/pubs should use images they have the rights for and cite their sources. Resources like Nappy,Pexels, Pixabay, Unsplash, and the Gender Spectrum Collection are great for sourcing Creative Commons-licensed images (please be sure to research and adhere to the license of the images you use). Original imagery is also great.”

It’s phenomenal to now have some strong backup on this!! This change was needed big time.

Giving these articles a read through is highly recommended!

This Week’s Featured Writer

One person who’s great not only at writing, but at reading and engagement is Linda Ng, which is why she’s this week’s featured writer.

Linda has built her success on writing short, fun and informative articles. She’s also just a downright nice and enjoyable person. When not publishing travel stories here at Globetrotters she’s an editor for New Writers Welcome.

This is one of our most read stories on Globetrotters with 5.3k views! Congrats Linda:

This is her spotlight story:

Oh, and she takes some of the best selfies! A bit envious here as mine often come out looking like dog do-do.

Here are more of her travel story highlights:

October Monthly Challenge — Spooky!

The monthly challenge for October has begun!

Spooky, scary, unsettling travel stories are what we want to read. I personally love spooky stories. No excessive gore though please. Jillian’s wrote this fantastic story to get us started off:

Our latest challenge stories submitted since my last update:

There’s one story from our September challenge that did not get included in last week’s newsletter:

Serhii Onkov:

F. Leonora Solomon:

And here is the finale. Of course, you can still submit foodie-travel stories after this date, it just won’t be part of the challenge:

A big thank you to everyone who participated either by writing or reading!

And these are the stories submitted to our October challenge so far:

Keeping Our Little Travel Community a’Humming!

Every week I write up these newsletters with the sole intention of keeping everyone connected and engaged in our growing travel community.

Every other week I send a version of this newsletter with all of the people tagged at the end (on odd weeks I use the newsletter feature for pubs.) My intention is not to spam everyone, but rather to:

  • Share and promote your stories as much as possible!

Each week we add several new writers. Do take the time to visit a few profiles and check out their work and make them feel welcome!

  • I do know time gets limited, boy do I know! With so many stories, it’s near to impossible to keep up with everyone. I get that. Don’t kill yourself but do try to support as many of your fellow writers here at Globetrotters as is reasonable.

Read stories and comment on your fellow Globetrotters’ stories as much as is reasonably possible! And if someone reads and comments on your stories, do take the time to check out their work and reciprocate.

Reciprocal engagement is vitally important to your success on Medium. Without it, simply said you may end up falling flat.

Engagement, Support and Feedback

Please support the publication through reads, comments, claps, etc.

Questions, feedback and suggestions are always welcome!

The editing team here at Globetrotters consists of Adrienne Beaumont, Anne Bonfert, Jillian Amatt — Artistic Voyages and myself, JoAnn Ryan.

If you’re a Globetrotter but not on this list and want to be added, please let me know. Conversely, if you want to be taken off the list do let me know this as well. 🙂💛
