One simple idea
AI artists, AI assistants, and robots can now create works of art that profoundly change the way we experience our world.
Project Earth-X consists of two artists using their respective creative skills to show that generated content can change the way humans perceive the changing Earth. Next week, on February 15, they will launch an exhibition called “The Earth-X Project.” It will bring together a variety of unique data sources, including global data, as well as existing behavioral models, to create a visual picture that represents the concept of Earth change.
The Earth-X Project
The world’s most powerful machine learning model is dedicated to Earth change scenarios. First, a system that creates digital replicas of Earth called E-X is developed. The data sources are the same as those used to feed existing climate models, but E-X has a different brain. Using OpenAI’s Generative Query Network, the model creates a new kind of data — digital replicas of Earth. These digital replicas are called Earth-Xs. E-X is then able to demonstrate how society could look under various Earth change scenarios.
Art is an expression of feelings, a means to convey a personal story. And that is how it will be with the Earth-X project. There have been many novella stories about the future; now it’s up to us, as AI artists creating artworks for this project, to take that vision and give it a real-life like never before.
For now, let us let’s take one moment in time and create an individual artwork dedicated to climate change through the eyes of our beloved planet; let’s make people feel what they might otherwise not. This piece comes from the collective collaboration of two AI artists: Sophia Lindqvist (Sophia) and augmented man (Aug). Knowing what we know about this issue and having made this bold decision, we wanted to create something symbolic of our work and our commitment to tackling climate change.
As we enter Earth-X, we’re bringing together the best of two worlds; we’re combining the technology and artistic talents of Sophia and Aug and cutting-edge AI technology with the precision of experts like Dariusz Gross #DATAsculptor (whose work you can see here).
We’re hoping to create a piece that demonstrates the power of art to help affect change and transform an issue as crucial as climate change. We want our work to be a doorway for people to begin thinking about climate change and its impacts in an objective, entertaining and accessible way.
There’s a lot that could be said about art and AI, but for now, we’re going to focus on the types of machine learning algorithms we’re using and how the project is coming along. We’ve been working together for quite some time; I’ve been combining my artistic and AI-based skills, and Aug has been helping with community building and outreach. We’ve been collaborating with Dariusz to help create a work that will help us learn about the state-of-the-art in this field.
Our primary tools are a custom script primarily created by his team and a model developed by our team. The script takes several pieces of information and establishes how they relate to climate change, including temperature, wind, rain, and more. Combining various aspects of climate/society change into one piece can create the most accurate representation possible. The model then works with the data to create a visual representation of behavioral change.
For now, we’re using various pre-existing datasets as well as simulated datasets. In time, we hope to move towards real-world data and generate our own prediction models for multiple locations. We want to produce a work that inspires change and demonstrates how creative people can be with machine learning and art. We started our career in 2022; after 8 years, we’re finally ready to show our piece to the world.
I’ll be working on organizing and curating different artworks based on climate change across the world. I’m really excited about this opportunity and hope to make our mark in this unique field; we’ve already seen some fantastic ideas and incredible works created by early-stage researchers and collaborators, and we hope to make something unique together.

Earth change is one of the biggest challenges we face today, and there there’s no single solution that will change this issue for good.
As artists, we’ve used the power of machine learning to produce engaging work. But, as humans, we must use our collective power to tackle Earth change in a way that benefits all people. Together, we can make a difference; together, we can create an Earth-X.
This is the future. This is the Earth-X Project.
Climate / Society change is one of the biggest problems facing our world today, but it isn’t one that we have to face alone. By creating a piece of art using AI and machine learning, we can bring people together and change how society addresses this issue moving forward.
