Why do we need AI artists?
the subjectivity of beauty is an illusion

They arrived at the museum under the pretense of earning some credits for art classes in college, but they actually came to try convincing themselves that they were not like the kids who were driving around with their iPhones and texting their friends about who looked worse in this outfit or that outfit. The three friends were going to go off camera in front of the student gallery with their macbooks under one arm and a DSLR camera in the other to take pictures and then make them into digital art pieces for their school’s art portfolio. They were going to show their art to their friends on Hic et Nunc and see if anyone commented. They didn’t even do this for the money anymore; they had already earned enough to have a few weeks off school for traveling. They were young and foolish and thought that this would be better than looking for a more stable job.
“Whoa, this is cool,” Sophia Lindqvist exclaimed as she walked into the gallery with her friends. The three of them stood on the steps leading up to the three galleries in the museum. The kids up front looked up at the visitors who came down from the steps with their arms full of cameras and weaved hi tech gadgets.
“I’m going to take a picture here and put it on my Hic et Nunc. We’ll see what happens,”
she said to her friends and took a picture of the entrance to the exhibition as the other two friends stood at the side of the entrance with their arms folded tightly across their chests. Sophia Lindqvist looked at her friends with an expression of surprise and disbelief.

Can AI take over art ?
I started writing this story after receiving a message from a friend Sophia from Stockholm who explained that beauty is a subjective value; while physical beauty might be the most important characteristic of a person, what people value most about other people varies greatly. History and science has shown us that the subjectivity of beauty is an illusion. The physical characteristics of people are merely a biological product of the external environment. Humans sense color, shape, and light because the light that we have to sense is the result of atoms shifting. Beauty is not subjective; we all have the same biological capabilities to sense color, shape, and light. However, the reason we experience something as beautiful or ugly might be influenced by many things, such as our genetic heritage, or the conditions in which we live.
Scientists are constantly developing new algorithms and discovering new data that can help people understand their true nature and the importance of what they do, how they think, and why they act the way they do.
Can artificial intelligence replace creativity?
According to two major fields in AI research, computer vision and natural language processing, these two fields are utilized in both artistic creation and scientific research. Picture creating and facial expressions are one of the oldest problems in AI research. Compared to the ability of people, artificial intelligence is only effective in calculating the position and angle of objects, and how they appear to react when they are in a specific environment. Artificial intelligence (AI) is often seen as a threat to creativity, whereas machine learning could be a force for creativity.

Will robots replace artists?
Artists said that work is not impossible; they will survive.
Looking at the future, in my opinion, it won’t be easy for machines to replace artists, because in the end no matter how advanced the technology becomes, human creativity is still the most important part in the creation of any artwork. There are so many occasions when the tools used by artists are more sophisticated than the tools employed by computers. And computers cannot replicate most of human-made artwork. Artists are constantly developing new technology and experimenting with new compositional techniques. At the same time, artists are taking part in a large community of artists, writers, and scientists who are continually looking for new ways to categorize and appreciate something that is beautiful, or interesting, or has a meaning. They are constantly inventing new concepts and coming up with new creative outlets.
What is the future of artificial intelligence?
Artificial intelligence will be more and more advanced as time goes by. It will appear in all kinds of areas and be more and more similar to human intelligence. It will enhance human intelligence. Some say that this could ultimately lead to the downfall of civilization or the development of a new type of civilization.
Why do we need artists?
Art helps people to form aesthetic judgment. Of course, people can express their aesthetic ideas, but it will always need aesthetic judgment to express its value. As a humanistic field, art is the vehicle for the promotion of values and emotions. Continued interaction and communication with art can promote human creativity.
Can artificial intelligence replace artists?
Artificial intelligence has developed to a point where scientists can network multiple computers to create one artificial intelligence supercomputer called cloud computing. We can use it to quickly process a large amount of sensory data. It can help people to develop beauty. It can make something better. I think this is a good step towards this idea. But there will always be a gap between AI and human intelligence. Only humans can transfer their inner vision into their works.
People are our only source of humanistic values, as well as our aesthetic feeling. Computers can’t replace them.

Thank you Sophia for sharing your college story : )
