Your Loving Home
Thank You Notes #49

“Home, the spot of earth supremely blest, A dearer, sweeter spot than all the rest.” — Robert Montgomery
We never knew how precious our home was to us until we arrived last Sunday evening from a beach trip cut short. It became a place of great comfort and solace.
Hours earlier, we were at the coast, enjoying a short trip staying in a beach rental home with two other families. The view of the ocean was spectacular from the dining area window, waves crashing onto the shore.
Although the house was right on the beach, a high retaining wall separated us from the garden and the beach. Our son made a fateful leap onto the sand from a rope ladder on the wall.

It hurt my heart to see how much pain he felt. At first, we thought he twisted his ankle. We helped him get to a nearby ramp to a parking lot and then into the car to the house.
As we applied ice packs and gave him some pain medication, we realized it would be best to take him to urgent care to ensure no bones broke from his fall.
After a long wait, he got a boot for his foot and some crutches. We did our best to make sure he was comfortable in bed at the beach house, but going home seemed like the best option.

Our hearts felt relief. We were going home.
Crossing the threshold on crutches and going up the stairs to his bed proved difficult for our dear son, but the beauty of being home meant everything was comfortable.

The next morning meant visiting his doctor and getting an x-ray. We were deeply appreciative of everyone’s care and concern. No wonder our son was in such pain-he had a spiral fracture of his tibia- a broken leg!
Our final stop was to get a cast for his leg and make a follow-up appointment. He did so well, and it made me smile when he got to pick out a purple cast. His favorite color cast a bright ray of sunshine on a dark day.
For the next six weeks, our home will mean a lot to all of us. It is a place of familiarity, comfort, and healing.

It comforts my spirit to see my son cozy in bed with well-loved blankets, pillows, and the love of our home and family. Here he will heal, learn to get around on crutches and appreciate all the moments in life.
Today is a day to reflect and thank our home for everything it provides for us.
This week’s theme is:
