Why Portugal Is A Growing Hub For Digital Nomads

Portugal has been a popular tourist destination for many Europeans but what’s the drive for nomads?

As a Digital Nomad myself, I’ve visited Portugal a handful of times and spent over 6 months there in total. Each time I’ve found myself falling in love even more — it has everything you need and more. Amazing places to work from, a great community and such friendly locals!

Let’s take a deeper look at why Portugal is a growing hub for digital nomads:

It’s Affordable

The cost of living is known to be one of the lowest places across Western Europe. Accommodation, public transfer, groceries and even nights out all cost way less than what you’d pay in countries like Spain or Italy, especially in the larger cities.

Great Weather

Although we’re going there to work, we’ll definitely find the time to play! Nomads will always make time for sunshine. Although in the winter it’s very rainy, Portugal is mostly warm throughout the rest of the year. Long bright evenings with gorgeous sunsets.

Reliable Wi-Fi

When visiting the larger more popular cities, such as Lisbon, Porto or Faro there is an impressive high-speed internet infrastructure with accessible WiFi in most cafes. The high-speed wifi in most cafes allows you to soak up the culture whilst working from anywhere and enjoying delicious coffee.

Diverse Culture & Community

There is a lot to do when it comes to learning about Portugal and immersing yourself in the culture. There are plenty of day trips from the coast to the country as well as interactive museums, wine tasting and local markets. There is also a strong foreigner community across the cities so it’s easy to connect with like-minded people living the same lifestyle.

Impressive Food

Where do I even start with this? The bakeries alone are worth a shoutout! If you’ve got a sweet tooth, this could be dangerous. Portugal has some of the most delicious pastries you’ll ever have. The country also produces some of the best wine, cheese and cured meats in the world. There are plenty of places offering traditional Portuguese food for cheap.

Portugal will make you feel so welcomed as soon as you arrive. Each city has its own character and culture but everyone is so friendly despite the differences.

You’ll find that most people speak English and if there’s ever a situation where someone doesn’t, you’ll get by with Google translate and hand gestures — again, everyone is SO friendly. The Portuguese will always do their best to help you no matter what.

Above all, it’s a very easy country to navigate, giving nomads the freedom to explore the countryside and coastlines whenever they want.

Is Portugal next on your list of places to visit?
