4 Downsides Of The Nomadic Lifestyle No One Tells You About

What you see on social media isn’t always real

As someone who’s been nomadic since 2018, I’d like to think I’ve adjusted to this lifestyle. Through personal experiences, I’ve learned to know what I love but also miss.

However, the picture painted on social media doesn’t always tell the full story. Here are four points to consider before beginning your journey as a Digital Nomad.

#1 Fleeting Connections

Being constantly on the move, you’ll mostly make shallow connections and have plenty of small-talk. To know you’ll never see these people again can be tiresome, but perhaps letting them go with a simple goodbye supports the excitement of who’s next.

#2 Attachments

The idea of being attached screams lack of movement (a nomad's worst nightmare) but some attachments are wonderful and addictive. A beautiful home, an amazing relationship, an office job with all your friends in one place — you’d likely have to give these up to continue the nomadic journey.

#3 Loneliness

Avoiding loneliness is easier for those who are settled down, have family nearby, and have an ever-growing circle of friends. For nomads, this can be more challenging but don’t panic. There are still some great ways to create a social life whilst on the move.

#4 Lack of Social Learning

Yes, being nomadic means you meet like-minded people, and it’s likely you’ll meet plenty who will inspire you, or have a skill you’d want to learn, but often your exposure to them will be limited because of your travels.

Though there are downsides, the pros do outweigh the cons.

Come be my next fleeting connection.
