Why Your Next Trip Should Be A Slow Trip

We can all slow travel — it’s a way of life that gets you thinking of travel differently. You can switch up the jam-packed busy trips and ticking everything off your to-do list, to stepping headfirst into new cultures and meeting locals. Travelling this way allows you to prioritise experiences over those tourist attractions.
I find fast travel exhausting and stressful — I’ll always run out of time and leave somewhere sad because I didn’t tick everything off my to-do list. Slow travel allows me to take the time to wander through cobbled streets, finding hidden gems and cute coffee shops. It also allows me to live like a local and entirely emerges rather than being a tourist. You not only learn about the culture of a new country but also learn more about yourself and what you love.
Here’s why you should try slow travel at some point in your life:
Energy Saving: you’ll have the time to relax. You can watch the world go by whilst enjoying deliciously brewed coffee as opposed to always being on the run.
Fewer Tourist Crowds: you’ll have time to go off the beaten track and choose when to do so. This still allows you to visit the places you want to see but choosing to go earlier in the day or mid-week means avoiding the queues.
New Connections: staying locally gives you a better chance to connect with the people from the day you arrive. My absolute favourite is to make friends with the local baristas as they know all the city secrets.
Save Time: if you’re constantly on the move, you waste a lot of time transferring from one place to another. Spending time at airports or on trains, buses, and accommodation check-ins and checkouts can be draining… but slow travel means all of that time can be spent living in the moment and learning something new.
