6 Travel Gadgets Every New Nomad Needs
Lessen the burden of packing and unpacking with these necessary tools.
A lot of digital nomads are choosing to live minimally. By owning few clothes and only carrying the necessary tools to work effectively the typical travel burdens of packing and unpacking fizzle away.
As much as you want to travel light and save money, you should also consider investing in these gadgets. Seriously, spend some time finding the right ones for your comfort and wellbeing. Future you will be thankful.
#1. Laptop stand: An absolute must for overall comfort and more importantly your back. Spend money on quality as the cheap ones will break sooner rather than later.
#2. Keyboard & Mouse: It’s a personal preference on brand but I highly recommend wireless as it’s less wasted time untangling cables and will save you space when packing.
#3. Noise-cancelling headphones: This makes a huge difference when having a call or trying to get work done in sub-optimal locations such as on a flight or at a noisy cafe.
#4. Packing cubes: Whether you’re an expert traveller or packer, packing cubes are a game-changer. They help organise small spaces, making items much easier to find. If you purchase the compression cubes they’ll shrink your clothes into a more manageable size, allowing you to fit even more in.
#5. Portable Speaker: It’s a good feeling to be able to listen to your own music comfortably at home, especially after wearing headphones all day. I take my Wonderboom with me everywhere….this may not be a necessity to you but it’s my little piece of joy that joins me around the world. Find yours.
#6. Cable organiser: You’ll be surprised at how many cables there are to pack even though a lot of your gear will be wireless. Having an organiser will save you a lot of time untangling cables on a daily basis.
With all of the above in mind, let’s talk about…Mise en place.
It’s a French term that chefs often use to describe putting everything in order — from having condiments stacked in the right order, to having a spoon for each sauce. It’s a way to stay focused during chaotic situations. The art of travelling could be compared to professional cooking with regards to doing the same thing consistently.
There’s always time for something to go wrong but Mise en place certainly keeps the pressure off. No matter what equipment you travel with, make sure that everything has a home in your luggage to allow for a stress-free life.
Having these gadgets and the process alongside it will make working whilst on the move that extra bit easier, freeing up more time to explore. If you’re thinking about a new life as a digital nomad, enjoy creating your own travel kit.
