This is an introduction to a series on Saturn through the signs and houses which can be applied to birth placements and transits.

Intro to Saturn

Saturn is a placement that requires us to work hard for what we want. However, even though the work may be hard at times, great satisfaction awaits on the other side of your toil.

I’ve been thinking about this planet in astrology a lot lately. I used to be a little apprehensive when I saw a Saturn transit on the horizon because Saturn makes you work. There are no easy way-outs.

In the past, I have been worried that I might find myself in situations that are too much to handle. This was also way before I knew anything about astrology. Now, I believe Saturn’s lessons are never meant to be insurmountable — challenging, yes, but definitely achievable with desire, a plan, and action based on a pre-determined baseline method, likely, of course, to be refined along the way.

Saturn, traditionally linked with the archetype of ‘the father’, or the breadwinner, wants you to succeed, although it probably won’t hold your hand the whole time, unless the transit is perhaps an easier one like a sextile.

You might feel like you’re on your own during your lessons at times, but this is never really the case. These are times of testing, to see if you have mastered the work you have been doing, often without even realising it, just through living your life.

When is a Saturnian event most likely?

The hardest part of a Saturn transit is the advance to an exact, 0-degree aspect, such as a conjunction, square, opposition, trine, sextile, or any other more minor one. This is because you are in the realisation and planning stage, sorting out what needs to change and how you’re going to do it.

When the transit is exact, that is the time to expect some sort of event in which your work is put to the test. This is the culmination point. As the aspect separates, you will receive due rewards for your work done well, and reflect on what you still could improve based on what didn’t go so well.

I use different orbs of influence for different planets/luminaries based on the speed the move at. For instance, the moon moves so quickly that for the influence of transit moon opposing your natal moon you might want to use an orb of 5 degrees if you want to predict the certain hours over the couple of days of each month this transit occurs.

Saturn, a much slower outer planet, will spend almost two months at 1 degree either side of an exact aspect with a planet/luminary/angle/object in a chart. The most likely time you might experience the culmination of an exact Saturn transit is the two weeks before and two weeks after being exact.

A brief note on Saturn in Pisces

Work takes time, and the planet takes 2–3 years to travel through all 30 degrees of a sign, like a school course that runs across several years. It’s interesting that with Saturn in Aquarius from March 2020 — 7 March 2023 we had the most widespread disruption to global society, ever, with the pandemic. The restrictions applied to community were so literal.

Now that Saturn is in Pisces, until 14 February 2026 (except for 25 May 2025 — and 31 August 2025), we are likely to face crises related to some aspect of our spirituality and earth-bound limitations. We can already see this with the mainstream emergence of AI, the questions it raises about our physical limitations, which AI can supersede, and what this might mean for the future of humanity.

We learnt lessons from the pandemic and got through it although it wasn’t easy and some things have been changed forever. It will be similar with Saturn in Pisces. There will be some teething issues, but we will figure it out.

After learning more about Saturn over the past couple of years, and having just experienced a 1st house Saturn transit, conjunction to my ascendant, squares to both my sun and moon, and also natal Saturn, as well as several other aspects to other planets, (fixed-sign central yay), I think it might actually be my new favourite planet.

One thing I can 100 percent guarantee, is you will always come out a stronger, more resilient, more boss, more slay version of yourself. So, especially if you have. planets/luminaries/angles in the mutable signs — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces, now that Saturn is transiting Pisces, yes, things may feel a bit tougher right now, but you have entered into a period of SO MUCH GROWTH. I’m so excited for you to discover lots more about yourself and your potential over the next few years ✨✨
