I Failed My First 30 Day Challenge
But it’s not over yet
Yep…you read the title correctly all right. I FAILED! I miserably failed to accomplish what my main goal was. I wanted to write 30 pieces for 30 different publications. I wanted to achieve this so I could get out of my comfort zone and try new styles and themes…which I did, but not for 30 articles.
Here is my challenge post where I added more specifics.
I do have to say that now I know what happened, the “whys” I failed, and what I can do to have a better experience and really challenge myself. It is a failure but as I always try to do, I will look on the bright side and use this to learn from what I did.
I think that the main reason I did not succeed was that I started to submit pieces every day but of course some were not published immediately. It’s super understandable and I had already foreseen this but I kind of did not like that on a single day, I could have three articles published.
What if someone miraculously follows me with each article I put out and then sees this? They would be overwhelmed right? Or am I overthinking this aspect too much? I have seen other advice and tips on how to reach one's goals and if you kindly have any advice for me, I would happily receive it.
Lastly, I would like to share the pieces that indeed met the requirements I had put on myself.
- This was the first piece I shared with The Brain is a Noodle…its a hopefully relatable poem about teen memories and their hardships back in the day.
- As all my family members are serious coffee lovers, I just had to share this useful information. Do you crave coffee now? I published it on the Illumination pub.
- The spooky season had just started and I also wanted to chime in on the fun. This is the first part of a mini-series I did. It will soon end. I wrote it for the Daily Cuppa.
- I love nature, so my writings also include some homages to it. This was my first attempt to write a tanka. I submitted this piece to the House of Haiku…which also includes tankas.
- I wrote this piece out of a certain frustration as I found out someone wanted to donate to me three times but the system failed. The Shortform was the house that published this piece.
- This is another spooky but also relatable piece. Everyone has monsters lurking around, we are the only ones to decide how to deal with them. Know Thyself Heal Thyself kindly published this piece with them.
- This is another fiction piece. I love to write stories that have a deep meaning behind them, even though it's not that direct at first. This was a response to a prompt challenge by IPoetry.
- The news never stops, bad or good but definitely, everyone overshares the bad ones. I think that we can all have an oversaturation of bad vibes and this was just one piece where I shared my thoughts and reflections. I wrote this poem for Blue Insight.
- Another old memory came to mind as I remembered when someone thought they had all the creative control in a school project. In the end, everyone has to be able to chime in and help. This was published in the New Writers Welcome.
- I started a new Travel Series on the Coffee Times and this was my first prompt. There is a new one every week for those who want to get inspiration for their own articles.
- We often forget to be kind or to appreciate when other people are, this is a short reminder of the joyful and happy emotions one can have if you are in the presence of kindness. It was posted in the Rainbow Salad.
- Do you have any mascots? Well, this piece is for pet lovers. I wanted to extend the joy any pet can give us. You can find it in the publication Animal Rescue.
- For these days dedicated to appreciation and gratitude, why not write a letter for a special someone? This was a response in the Weeds & Wildflowers publication.
- I tried out another form of poetry and made three acrostic poems with all three being related to music and its appreciation on The Bazaar of the Bizarre.
- Thanksgiving and more festivities are coming so I decided to make two sijos. They are referencing the party life but also…the antisocial perspective of having family reunions. It was published in The Haven.
- For Counter Arts, I published an update of an article I did a while back. I think it was the second article I ever did! It was about women’s mandated uniforms for their sports and their inequality. This news has a good ending.
- The last piece I got to submit within this 30 Day Challenge was for Cultured. It was a take on my perspective and why I try to gather all people together so that the ambiance isn’t too awkward towards strangers when there is a gathering.
In the end, I created 17 pieces. Half of what I expected to do, so it's a big fat fail. I honestly did like that I submitted some pieces on publications I had not published so often but I left out so many others.
Thanks to this experience, I know I can soon challenge myself again and hopefully succeed. I’ll have to gather some more strategies and I need to figure out how I can be more organized.
I first thought that I could do drafts for the week only on Sundays but even this was not sufficient because then I was tagged on various prompts, which I of course wanted to participate in…so I was behind other publications. This is an error I can work on and put together.
A fail for now but lessons for later.
