The Monster in Your Head

You encounter a sleepless night

Turning to one side, then to the other. You know you have a big day ahead of you but you just can't sleep.

The next day, you have the biggest presentation of your career. You are the one to convince this huge client to sign with your company. It was the first time you had this enormous task on your shoulders. People said that you were capable of it. But what if you weren’t?

You had been practicing for days, but anything can happen. You knew the nervousness could outgrow you. The fear of failure was creeping. You were getting agitated and it was not even the time for the presentation. It was unbelievable.

Some classical music might help. You had heard about this so why not try it. After a few minutes, you did fall asleep! Were you having…a dream? It was not common for you to be conscious of a dream. You hardly ever had them. This was new.

You were walking in a forest late at night. Even in your dreams, you were trying to lie to yourself, thinking that it was a beautiful scene. Thinking on the bright side…oh boy. You started to feel uneasy when you saw something in the distance.

It was a house, right in the middle of a clearing. You chose to go there. It was abandoned. You still went inside. You started to walk through the rooms, to look for something that could help you, but nothing. It was empty.

There was only a chair so you decided to rest. Looking in all the directions. Shadows all around. You saw a window. The light of the moon was letting you see outside. The forest was too dense. More shadows. Then suddenly another shadow was there.

It could be anything. You were of course in a forest but you could not take your eyes off of it. Minutes maybe hours passed by. The shadow moved. You thought it was small but it was getting bigger. You have never felt this scared before.

It stopped.

It then got bigger and bigger. You knew it could see you as you could see it. You knew it was an it. No person would move like that. Its steps were abnormal. It was an it. It looked like a person but you knew better. An animal maybe? You did not know.

You had not moved even an inch. The fright was too much to bear. Your eyes were glued open. The shadow was coming close, too close.

It suddenly began to run. Closer and closer.

You jumped in your bed. You couldn’t believe it. It had been a nightmare. You were breathing heavily. You were looking around in your bedroom, it was alright now but the scares still lingered. It was such a vivid dream.

You thought the shadow was still there.

This shadow lingering will always be there if you don’t muster the courage to break your insecurities down. Believe in yourself! Like the shadow, many obstacles will come your way, what can you do? Even if failure is ahead, we have to learn from it. Grow from it. Give all your best.
