A Pure Act of Kindness

You may not know how much of an impact you can have on people

My family and I decided to walk to the park It was a lovely sunny afternoon What else could we do? We wanted to go outside Have fun

We got to the exterior games We were the only ones

We started to play Then a boy came along I looked around He was alone It’s not common to see kids by themselves But I guess he was

He was very shy But the kids are always so welcoming They all started to play They were all so happy The boy did not even say anything about my disabled kid They all played together

I just gazed in awe The boy had not once looked down upon my child He did not see him differently This stranger little fellow was full of kindness

Time flew by so quickly I bet they had so much fun

I will never know who that boy was But his actions define who he is I bet he will also never know That I cried so many times within

Kindness can have a great impact Kindness can mean so much to anyone

We should all be more like this boy He was once a stranger But immediately gained the friendship of my kids And my appreciation

This poem was inspired by a video where I saw two boys playing together. One had a disability and one didn’t. Setting aside that difference, you could see how strong their friendship was. It was a heartwarming video. We may forget how people with any type of disability and the people around them feel. Why do some treat them differently?

This transmits to a pure act of kindness. We should all be more like the little boy.
