From the Editor
THIS MONTH, WE ARE CALLING FOR ANYTHING… BUT MAKE IT QUEER!
There is something satisfying about taking the seemingly plain or the seemingly cis-hetero-normative, and making it queer! Or is it just me? I mean, every love song I hear with ‘male vocals’ I assume is being sung to another masc person (if they say she or her, I’m so disappointed, lol). Some may think that comes from a place of wanting to cause conflict and push the ‘queer agenda’, but for me, it comes from a place of comfort, connection, representation, and fun. Oh, and colors! Always colors.
So, this month, we are calling on our writers to share anything at all… but make it queer! Queered fiction, queered recipes, queered crafts. Hell, queered self! It’s an open platter of queer fun. We are going to gather their favorite ‘but make it queer’ articles as chosen by them. If you haven’t already, make sure you follow and subscribe to be notified when the Quintessentials is live!
WRITERS — How to Be Included in the Showcase:
Important note: From this month forward, we will accept TWO showcase submissions per writer but at least one must be in response to this prompt! You can submit one old article and one new, or two new. Or just one of either.
So, writers, share with us your ‘but make it queer’ article. The theme is ‘but make it queer’, the rest, is up to you.
Here are some ideas to get you pondering:
- The cover image is of a cheese toastie from Rainbow Toastie in Melbourne (external link below). Share with us your favorite food or recipe… but make it queer!
- Know a song that is just screaming to be queerified? Share with us song lyrics… but make it queer! (Note: Ensure you adhere to copyright ‘fair use’ laws)
- Most fairy tales are so cis-hetero-normative and yet, have hidden queer coding everywhere. Re-write a fairy tale… but make it queer! (Note: Ensure you adhere to copyright ‘fair use’ laws)
- Did you think you were cishet before your egg cracked (like me — silly puppies)? Share your story. Your life… and then you made it queer! Lol.
- Have you queerified any clothes or furniture?
- Is there a movie, TV show, or book you would re-cast for queer perfection?
- Digitally re-create the last supper… but make it queer! Too much?
- Get creative… BUT MAKE IT QUEER!
Share with us your … but make it queer post you wrote long ago that needs to be revived OR share a new post prompted by this month’s theme (or both).
- Your post DOES NOT need to be published with Queerly Trans — but yes, you CAN submit to QT if your post meets the guidelines.
- Your posts do not have to meet the full QT guidelines (unless published ON QT), but they DO need to meet Medium’s guidelines (of course).
- Drop the link to your showcase pieces in the comments. Remember, if you are going to WRITE a NEW post, you will still need to come back HERE and drop the link in the comments, even if you DO publish on Queerly Trans. As the showcase is SELF-NOMINATION only, if your link isn’t in the comments, it won’t be in the showcase.
Submissions close STRICTLY November 30th at midnight in YOUR timezone.
Please note: though your post does not need to be published on QT, you must be a QT writer to be included in our Quintessentials Showcase. CLICK HERE to apply to write for us.
