Queerly Trans: Because trans does not equal straight!

In this Update (click on links):

Quintessential May Writer’s Showcase:
Welcome to the first ever Quintessential Showcase.
We asked out Queerly Trans writers to submit their favorite and/or most underrated pieces so that we could gather them here in our first monthly WRITER’S SHOWCASE.
These articles are MUST READS as selected by the authors themselves! They share knowledge, insights, and entertainment that the authors know you’ll enjoy and perhaps, need to hear.
Read. Enjoy. And perhaps you’ll even find some new favorite authors to follow on Medium.

“Hot Topic: Trans Dating Preference vs Body Parts — Let’s get clear on preferences vs transphobia” by KP_the_writer
Is it transphobic to have physical sexual preferences? No. Is it transphobic to say you would never date a trans person? Yes. Why? Because one does not equal the other. A trans person does not equal ‘my sexual preference’ or ‘not my sexual preference’. And more specifically, a trans person does not equal what’s in their pants.

“Saving Women’s Sports from Trans Women? — A perspective from one of the invisible men watching this fight unfold inside his local legislature building” by Logan Silkwood
I was visibly trans enough that, when I tried to enter the giant room where the hearing would be held, someone claiming to be an employee tried to stop me from coming in. He claimed there were no seats left, despite my wife having told me in a text that they had saved me one.

“Puberty 2.0 — Definitions: Choosing a Contemporary Course Curriculum” by 💜 Victoria Quinn 💜
“Hormone replacement therapy entails a reconfiguring of both body and mind. Physically, this potentially means growth of breasts, reduction in body/facial hair, change in body odor, etc. Mentally, the possible changes include increased emotional capacity, enhanced sensory perceptions, improved sleeping patterns, etc. I say potentially and possibly because nothing is certain with hormones.”

“An Aromantic’s Quest to Find a Stable, Loving Relationship — Love is love, regardless of the label. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet” by Sieran Lane
For the longest time, I was happy on my own, with no desire to date or sleep with anyone. In fact, I didn’t want to feel bound to anyone. And I didn’t feel comfortable with romantic labels, either, especially words like “boyfriend” or “dating.”

“Message of Hope — Positive energy in art” by Jymi Cliche
This is a difficult week for me because every year on Pi-Day, I remember the 14+ friends I’ve lost to suicide. Several of them were lost at this time of year and I struggle every year at this time too.

“She Moves in Mysterious Ways” by Nova Grace
Fiction series — part 1
Over three long years Cassandra undertook a massive transformation. Now, flanked by her best friend, she’s emerging as the most confident woman on the clubbing scene, with one goal — to confirm her femininity by renouncing masculinity, thereby defeating her past. But things don’t always go as planned…

SNEAK PEAK: June Quintessential Showcase
This month, we’ll ask our writers share with you their favorite queerly trans representation be it a movie, TV show, book, celebrity, Youtuber, etc. Together, we’ll build a resource list — how cool is that?
QT writers — watch out for the Quintessentials on the 16th for your invitation to submit to our June showcase.
