7 Mental Processes That Kill the Quality of Your Life

Free yourself from your limiting beliefs.

Do you want to change your life?

If the answer is “yes”, there are probably things that keep you stuck.

Here is the thing: your life is a reflection of your assumptions. The Universe will always support you in your beliefs.

You are right when you are convinced that the world is a loving and abundant place where people are helpful.

You are also right when you believe that you should dump blame and responsibility on others while you stay the victim.

As Thomas Jefferson preached:

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

What you believe makes it true in your world. Your physical world is the extension of your spirituality.

As Within, so Without.

If you want to shift your life, focus on your inner space instead of trying to change the external first. As long as you get sidetracked by outside events, you will lose your inner balance.

How can you restore your inner peace?

Limiting beliefs.

If you want to change your life, examine your environment.

What is bugging you? What do you think blocks your way to a successful career, relationship, and finances?

Those answers are your limiting beliefs.

To change your beliefs, first, you need to become aware of what they are.

I will never get that job, because I don’t have a college degree.

You have subscribed to a belief that paper makes you valuable. Your core belief is that you are not worthy because external conditions limit you.

But worth does not come from anything external. It comes from how you think about yourself. We know that people without a college degree do become successful. Their qualifications don’t make them successful. Their mindset does.

It is difficult for me to find a partner as I don’t go out much.

You believe that only through going out and partying you can meet people. It is an illusion. We all know that people meet online, bump each other in line at a grocery or meet by mutual friends. Again, your limiting beliefs put conditions on your life. And any conditional life is a suffocating one.

Once you become aware of the beliefs that keep you stuck, you can start telling yourself a different story.

People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.

Affirm.

Affirmations are powerful if you are consistent with them.

You can record personal affirmations that get to the roots of your most limiting, intimidating beliefs. Or you can listen to ready-made tracks that you can play for 8 hours straight while you sleep.

Your subconscious never sleeps and is always alert to the words and thoughts you infuse it with.

Self-discipline.

Awareness throughout the day is the best investment in improving the quality of your life.

Observe how you respond to stressful situations, hurtful comments or when things are not going according to your wishes.

Do you give in to self-criticism whenever you face an obstacle? Or do you cheer yourself on?

Do you react with anger and blame once a family member criticizes your choice? Or do you realize that criticism stems from their insecurities and perspective on life? Do you take a closer look at your behaviour and wonder if you are too harsh on yourself?

Awareness is the first step toward healing. You cannot change something you are blind to.

You start seeing patterns in your behaviour, what situations fuel you and what circumstances suffocate your drive.

You can have anything you want if you are willing to give up the belief that you can’t have it.

— Dr. Robert Anthony

Lack of self-knowledge.

The best expertise comes from observing yourself.

Instead of running away from uncomfortable feelings by scrolling, catching up on the news, and binge-eating, tune into your emotions.

Name them. Where are those feelings coming from? When did you feel like this when you were a kid? What is the first memory that comes to your mind?

To change the pattern, we need to get familiar with its structure.

When you trace the uncomfortable emotions to the root of it, you start seeing a pattern.

When was the first time you felt not good enough as a kid?

What happened in your childhood that you interpreted as your fault? Perhaps this is the reason you feel guilty each time your dad bursts out with anger.

Get candid with yourself. What areas of your life do you want to change?

Write down:

  • I release…
  • I no longer need…
  • I refuse to feed into the belief that…

Learn to let go of anger and resentment. Low emotions are holding you back from living your greatest potential.

Saying “I can’t”.

Every time you think or say “I can’t”, replace it with “I don’t want to”.

When you start paraphrasing your thoughts, you see a different angle of your autopilot behaviour.

You will realize how many times you bought into the illusion of being stuck or unable to make a change.

99% of the time, when we say: “I can’t”, we actually don’t want to do something for fear of change or the amount of work we would have to put into making it happen. “I can’t” is a convenient excuse for our ego that despises changes.

When you start saying: “I don’t want to”, you can look at the situation from a different perspective.

You start asking yourself: what is blocking me from taking action? Is it fear? Is it a lack of confidence in my abilities?

Then you have uncovered your limiting beliefs governing your life.

Once you realize what limiting beliefs keep you stuck, you get to rephrase them so that they will serve you. You start cheering yourself on to your way to success.

Taking responsibility for your self-talk is a powerful tool for creating a successful life.

Change your conception of yourself and you will automatically change the world in which you live. Do not try to change people; they are only messengers telling you who you are. Revalue yourself and they will confirm the change.

— Neville Goddard

Inability to sit alone.

Make a daily sanctuary for yourself to sit still.

Turn off the phone. Close the door.

Step away from social media and external distractions.

Become mindful of your body and your presence in it.

Master the art of doing nothing. You don’t always have to be super productive and busy to create.

It is good to vibe alone for a while. You will realize what drives your motivations, and what carries meaning in your life.

When you learn how to feel secure alone, you become invincible. No external conditions have power over you.

You no longer fear being left out. You don’t run away from your thoughts and emotions. You feel good enough on your own.

All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.

— Blaise Pascal

You can only stick your wounds and traumas when facing the discomfort of feeling lonely and discovering that the compass you have been looking outside has always been within you.

Solitude boosts your mental health and well-being.

When you discover your identity in the silence of your own presence, it is when you are no longer seduced by the external world. Instead, you experience everlasting freedom.

Labels.

We got so used to criticizing and judging that we are no longer conscious of doing it.

We label each person and situation. We either become a victim or a winner.

But in this world, everything is neutral except for the meaning we decide to give it. The meaning is based on our assumptions, upbringing, and the values we cultivate.

Observe your mind. Become the explorer of your thoughts.

When you observe, without judgment, you remain calm.

When you observe, without criticism, you learn.

Self-awareness is like holding a mirror at your soul.

Do not attach yourself to the meaning. Because that meaning will define your future.

If you want to blame others for your shortcoming, you have every right to do so. But remember the same choice will become your label. You will always end up as a victim of life circumstances.

Because in the end, you create your reality through assumptions you strengthen daily.

Devaluing your focus.

Be mindful of where you place your attention.

Your attention is your most precious resource. It is the source of your energy.

Whenever you focus on what others are doing, whether they think about you or have an opinion about what you do, you are doomed.

You will get stressed. Your health will fail. You will serve nobody.

Don’t you feel drained when you worry or create black scenarios in your head?

No wonder your creativity falls flat.

If you constantly criticize yourself for your past choices, your attention is not on future success but on the inability to achieve success.

When you torture yourself with the past, you give up the chance of finding happiness in the present.

When you feel like spiralling down into negative thoughts, close your eyes, breathe deeply, and focus on the present moment.

Research shows that focusing on the ‘now’ improves life satisfaction and reduces negative thinking.

Breathwork is a power fool tool in raising the quality of your life. It boosts your attention span and balances the amount of noradrenaline that enhances focus.

Thoughts are mental energy; they’re the currency that you have to attract what you desire. Learn to stop spending that currency on thoughts you don’t want.

— Wayne Dyer

Not appreciating where you are today.

Where you are right now may not be ideal. But at least it provides you with information about what you don’t want from life.

You can only realize what you want through your experience of what you don’t want.

Every journey is the right journey. You are always on the right path.

Every season of your life is designed for your growth and expansion.

You are where you are supposed to be. There are no mistakes. Even if right now is not perfect, you need this season to work through limitations and uncomfortable emotions to get where you want to be. Then you thrive.

Before you came down to Earth, you agreed to uncomfortable experiences because you knew they would shape you and remind you of your Truth.

Obstacles make for the greatest adventure.

Never shy away from the uncomfortable. It makes you shine.

Some changes look negative on the surface, but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.

— Eckhart Tolle

The world is not against you. It wants you to do better.

It is what challenges are for: so we can live up to our fullest potential.

Chaos in your mind reflects the mess in your life. Learning to observe and calm your thoughts can immensely boost the quality of your life.

As Within, so Without.
