I Have Finally Given Affirmations A Try

Results exceeded my expectations

I was never into affirmations. They smelled fake, and I did not enjoy participating in the pretending game. I would engage in various manifesting techniques and rituals to avoid chanting self-assuring mantras throughout the day.

I am glad I have taken alternative roads, only to experience how my life has improved since I gave affirmations a try. In fact, affirmations are not anywhere near pretending.

Affirmations carry healing power.

And I resisted healing the past wounds. Or precisely, my subconscious mind wanted to keep me in the comfort zone, even if it was dysfunctional but familiar. My ego didn’t want to get rid of shame, guilt, and feeling average. It felt comfortable in the ‘not enough’ state of mind.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t consider our ego or subconscious to be the enemy. None of it. They are not the master. We are the master and they are our puppets. We just need to learn how to pull the right strings.

Autosuggestion is a simple mind programming tool

The power of the mind has always been present throughout history. In 1937, Napoleon Hill wrote the book Think and Grow Rich and influenced many lives and successes. More than 80 years after its first publication, many people still stand by his lessons.

Having any doubts? That is normal.

Why self-affirmation works? It is rewarding and pleasurable. It acts as a defense mechanism by reminding us of the things in life that we cherish, thereby increasing the foundation of our self-worth.

Feel like laughing it off? This is your tricky subconscious mind speaking. Your mind does not feel comfortable with a new approach.

And since it is entirely innovative, expect life-changing results.

Why should we play affirmations on repeat?

Our brains evolved hundreds of thousands of years ago with a bias towards negativity. We were meant to stay alive and keep a lookout on any peril in the bushes. Therefore, our body reacts more intensely to negative stimuli than to equally strong positive ones.

To anchor your brain in the powerful thoughts of self-belief, we need to train them like muscles. As Dr. David Schechter, author of Think Away Your Pain, explains:

Just as we do repetitive physical exercise to get stronger, affirmations can be thoughts of as exercise for our mind/brain.

My personal experience with autosuggestion.

After several years of studying the Law of Attraction, I stumbled upon the Law of Assumption. I don’t like to separate those two. I prefer to mix them up. If you are curious about distinctions, here is a great post about differentiating those two, written by Ethereal Being.

Once I suspended all my judgment and dived into affirmations, my reality shifted immensely.

The first month was an extremely emotional roller coaster. Some days were ecstatic. Others, dreadful. Memories from the uncomfortable past came up to the surface of my judgmental mind. Shameful occurrences popped up. I needed to work through them. I needed to acknowledge that they happened and accept that the past no longer holds any grasp on my presence and future creation.

I came to the realization that none of the past matters, as I am the sole creator of my experience and hold the power to command my dreams and goals into reality. Period. There is no bigger entity than myself.

At first, I have listened to popular 8 hours affirmations on YouTube. However, with time, I recorded personal affirmation in my native language. What is more, my voice is the one familiar to my mind. I played those recordings on repeat, throughout the night, on headphones or a speaker next to my head. After listening to personal affirmations, things began changing after two days. Two days.

I persisted no matter what. I listened to them, even if my subconscious mind tried to persuade me otherwise:

Headphones are uncomfortable.

I cannot sleep to even the slightest noise.

I can’t get enough sleep.

I persisted despite those intrusive thoughts. After a few days, I got to sleep like a baby. I am confident. I am more open, in my body language and my perspective. Everything comes easily to me: money, friends, romantic relationship, creativity. I make new like-minded friends. Old friends are vanishing. Toxic relatives no longer bother me. My self-worth skyrocketed. I stumble upon videos and posts that open my eyes to further understanding of the consciousness we all are. And there are no coincidences. My energy levels are high. I do not give in to negative thoughts. Whatever I mark as done in my head, it starts happening.

Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.

— Earl Nightingale

Since I started consistently persisting despite what might be happening around me, I stopped checking results in my 3D reality. I no longer care if the thing I want is happening, because I already know it is done. I trust my abilities. I trust my capabilities of designing the life I want. I proceed with knowing that I am in the best place and in the best circumstances to enjoy my day with.

I no longer fear any desires that spring out from my imagination. They are here for a reason. And that reason is for them to come to fruition. I perceive any wants as a gift because they have already been planted in my heart to make it happen. There is no other way.

Here are some general statements you can incorporate into your affirmations:

  • I trust I can manifest whatever I desire.
  • I am confident.
  • I trust I can create new beliefs.
  • I believe in myself.
  • Manifesting is easy.
  • I can control how I feel.
  • I am powerful.
  • I am independent.
  • I am worthy of love.
  • I am safe.
  • I am loved and do not have to prove my worthiness to anybody.
  • I trust my family and friends.
  • I respect myself and tune into my needs.
  • I am a fast learner.
  • I am always at the right time and place.
  • I feel good when spending money.
  • I enjoy what I am doing for a living.
  • I am healthy.
  • I am beautiful.
  • I always get what I want.
  • I deserve all the best.
  • Everything is always working out for me.
  • I trust I always make the right decisions.
  • Circumstances do not matter, I always thrive.

As you see, those are pretty simple examples you can include in your personal list. Meditate upon what values are important in our life and pour them onto paper.

Oh, and one more thing.

Yes, it is that simple. We have been made to believe that you need to hustle in order to gain. We made ourselves believe that only complicated spiritual practices can influence our life. Break those limiting beliefs and enjoy the effortless flow of manifestations that are your birthright.

I encourage you to try affirming, whether in the morning or before going to bed. You can try sleeping with your affirmations on. Experiment. See how it turns out for you.
