Why I Am Quiet Quitting Halloween This Year

It’s becoming ridiculous.

When I was young, Halloween was a traditional and familial opportunity for the community to celebrate its shared roots, pay respect to the departed, and show its hope for the future through the children’s happiness during trick-or-treating.

Today, it’s nothing but a commercial cringefest.

And, like Black Friday, it lasts for much more than one day.

Halloween at Tokyo Disneyland runs from Thursday, September 15 through Monday, October 31. While at Disneyland California, it runs from September 2, 2022, through October 31. And in Disneyland Paris, it’s from October 1 to November 6.

It’s the same on social media.

Spooky Instagram and Scary TikTok trends started a few weeks ago already. And you can easily find hundreds of Halloween-themed articles on Medium. Some people have no decency and even explain that one can add “pumpkin spice” to any headline and make any article “Halloween friendly!!” In this context, friendly means more likely to be pushed by the algorithms.

For example, one writer published 10 Scary Halloween Costumes for Women Over 50 this year, and linked to her article from last year, titled 10 Sexy Halloween Costumes for Women Over 50. Can’t wait for next year and her 10 [REDACTED] Halloween Costumes for Women Over 50.

Thank you for being sooooo creative. (sarcasm)

Another unscrupulous and soulless “writer” wrote in mid-September, I Dated a Nymphomaniac. Here’s What Happened, and THEN, one month later, he wrote I Dated a PUMPKIN SPICE Nymphomaniac. Here’s What Happened …

Seriously?

(At least he won’t be able to do it again next year.)

I could go on and on. It’s too easy to find examples of Halloween cringe everywhere.

It makes me sad.

I wish we could change the world and go back to the innocence of our youth.

Halloween costumes would be homemade again, and trick-or-treating would be safe for the kids. It’s a world where the holiday would be more about honoring the dead and less about dancing half-naked in slutty Halloween costumes. It’s a world where Halloween wouldn’t be considered a market with total spending exceeding $10 billion!!

I know it’s a lost battle because how could we win against Amazon, Walmart, and Big Capitalism?

I will still celebrate Halloween this year because I have seven kids, and they wouldn’t understand if I forbade them from what still is, even though much less than before, a lovely celebration.

But my heart won’t be there.

I will quiet quit Halloween this year.
