5 times unmentionables led to crime blotter mentions

Underwear can be used as a vehicle for seduction, a connection to fashion, or merely a utilitarian piece of fabric to cover up with. But in these five cases, undergarments were used in some way that led to legal trouble.

Double Dipping

A group of five lingerie thieves from Maryland had a little excursion to Victoria’s Secret in Lebanon Valley Mall in Pennsylvania, where they filled garbage bags with $3,700 worth of merchandise. They were so happy with the trip that they decided to double dip and do the same thing at another Pennsylvania location. Although the group was charged for the two heists, they may have had a lot more than two dips in the lingerie theft pool, as they were suspected of stealing a whopping $300,000 of items from stores around the entire East Coast.

She also snugly stuffed another $5,000 in her girdle.

Boozy Bra Bandit

Although her shirt proclaimed that she was “Too Glam To Care,” Sekonie Jones wasn’t too glam to steal a reported 18 bottles of liquor from the Thrifty Discount Liquor & Wines store, which she stuffed in her bag, bra, and panties. Identified after Crime Stoppers released a video of the incident, along with the offer of a $300 reward, Jones took to her Facebook page to brazenly admit to stealing the liquor loot. “It’s true what I did and it is what it is never did I think it would be this big,” she explained. But her sudden brush with fame and newfound recognizability didn’t stop her from stealing. Less than a year later, Jones was arrested again for taking “many packages of meat and liquor” from Kroger.

He was “attempting to attract prostitutes in the area or other lewd and lascivious behavior.”

Girdle Misguidance

Consistency is key when you’re trying to sneak undeclared money through customs. Victoria Faren learned this the hard way during a trip from Detroit to the Philippines when customs officers found a discrepancy between her written declaration and what she actually told inspectors. As a result, she was forced to admit that not only had she used her sewing skills to hide $2,000 in her bra strap, but she also snugly stuffed another $5,000 in her girdle. This, along with the other $33,977 she hid in various places, was seized by customs, but no charges were filed.

Breathalyzer Boxers

When Daryle Lee Campbell was pulled over after police observed the “reckless driving pattern” of his truck, he clearly needed a breath test. But, according to the boxers he was wearing, he also had one of his own. When police confronted the half-naked man, he was wearing underwear that had “breathalyzer” printed on them along with “blow here” and an arrow pointing to his genitals. Although he claimed he was on his way to help someone change a flat tire, police found that Campbell had condoms, a penis ring, and binoculars in his truck — which caused them to conclude he was “attempting to attract prostitutes in the area or other lewd and lascivious behavior.” Not surprisingly, Campbell was charged with DUI.

Petty in Pink

After a 911 call reporting that a man who was “wearing a hat, no shirt, and had tattoos” had been spotted “swerving all over the road,” the police caught up with Buford Carroll to find him parked in a hotel parking lot “now wearing a white shirt with a hot pink bra underneath.” Where did the bra come from? Perhaps from his girlfriend, who was quick to point out that Carroll was “a dumbass” for driving on a restricted license in a car with the wrong plates on it. The man and the pink bra were taken into custody and released on a $500 bond.
