Summary

The article details seven cases where intense emotions of love and lust led individuals to commit crimes, resulting in their arrests.

Abstract

The article "When Love and Lust Lead to Lockup" presents a collection of seven bizarre incidents where romantic or sexual passion escalated into criminal behavior. These cases include a woman stabbing her husband over a doughnut disagreement, a wife assaulting her husband for forgetting their anniversary, a stripper attacking a patron for an insensitive comment, a prostitute seeking police mediation for a payment dispute, a woman's violent reaction to a sexual position disagreement, a couple engaging in sexual acts in public at a Walmart, and a pair getting intimate in the back of a police car. Each incident underscores the unintended consequences of intense emotions and the fine line between passion and criminality.

Opinions

  • The article implies that the strong emotions associated with love and lust can sometimes lead to irrational and criminal behavior.
  • It suggests that misunderstandings or disagreements in relationships can have serious legal repercussions, as seen in the cases of the doughnut dispute and the anniversary assault.
  • The author seems to highlight the absurdity of certain crimes, such as a customer commenting on a stripper's weight leading to physical assault.
  • The piece reflects on the importance of conflict resolution skills, particularly in the context of romantic or sexual relationships, as evidenced by the prostitute's attempt to involve law enforcement in a financial dispute.
  • There is an underlying tone of humor and disbelief at the lengths to which individuals will go when their desires or expectations are not met, such as the couple performing sexual acts in a Walmart parking lot.
  • The author may be critiquing societal norms and the legal system's involvement in personal matters, especially in the case of the couple in the police car, where an officer faced suspension for not intervening in their intimate conduct.

When Love and Lust Lead to Lockup

7 cases that ended with the wrong kind of handcuffing

Love and lust can be sticky…and usually that’s a good thing. But sometimes when passions run high, people get far too out of control and use those strong feelings in ways that lead them straight to the slammer. These are seven cases of when lust led to lockup and the handcuffing was no fun.

Doughnut Differences

You may love doughnuts and even have a favorite flavor. But would you stab someone for not getting one for you? You probably wouldn’t, but Michelle Nelson of Indiana did. Already upset because her husband was unable to procure the doughnuts she liked because the store didn’t have them, Nelson became enraged when he “did not know what else she liked after being together for several years.” Her response to this marital insult? A fork to the chest. And the law’s response to her overreaction? A felony aggravated battery charge and some time in a cell.

Anniversary Assault

If you can’t escape forgetting your spouse’s doughnut preference, don’t you dare lose track of your wedding anniversary. Ronnie Alexander made that mistake and then, as he told police, his wife, Carol Stone, “flipped the shit out” and began hitting him — which he recorded on his cell phone. However, it looks like this may have been a misunderstanding because Alexander told police he “planned to rent a hotel room for the weekend to celebrate their anniversary.” Either way, Stone was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and spent her anniversary in jail.

She became enraged when he “did not know what else she liked after being together for several years.”

Stripper Slight

Strippers work hard to entertain their customers, and the last thing they need to hear when they’re on the pole is that they should “go to the gym and lose weight.” But that is exactly what Kyle Yeomans said to a dancer during an evening at Derriere’s Gentlemen’s Club in South Carolina — and his health advice was not taken kindly. The dancer momentarily stopped working to hit him four times in the face and then bouncers quickly removed him from the club. Yeomans told police that although he was drunk on a scale of “11 out of 10,” he was justified in making his comment because the stripper was “annoying him and that she kept trying to talk to him and he was tired of it.” Not to mention the fact that, according to him, at around 120 pounds the dancer had “a muffin top.” However, the man told police he didn’t want the alleged chubby attacker to be arrested, he just wanted to make a police report.

If you’re going to pursue prostitution…don’t ask a police officer to mediate a dispute for you.

Prostitution Mediation

If you’re going to pursue prostitution, you’d better have strong negotiation skills to make sure you’re paid your erotic worth. At the very least, don’t ask a police officer to mediate a dispute for you. Kimberly Moore of South Carolina learned this lesson the hard way when she had a disagreement with customer Robert Sartor Jr. over $150. Although Sartor booked a hotel room for them and initially agreed to pay her the money, he claimed she owed him for driving her around. Since they couldn’t work it out themselves, Moore told a trooper she saw that Sartor “owed her money for prostitution.” Could it be that he was really withholding payment because, as he told police, his wife “didn’t know about his extra activities that he goes out and does”? Since both were charged with misdemeanor prostitution and released on $500 bond, it seems that Sartor would have been better off paying his bang bill.

Location, Location, Location

Sometimes we do things for our partner that we don’t necessarily like because we love them. But chances are, if we refuse, they aren’t going to take it personally. But Wendy Luper had her heart so set on doing a certain sexual position with her partner, Michael Vaccaro, in the car that she went into a rage when she stripped naked and he asked her to lay down. Although it’s unclear what sex act she wanted, what happened next is not: She struck Vaccaro with an object and when he made it out of the car, she ran over his foot. Apparently this domestic battery charge wasn’t Luper’s first rodeo, as she had been arrested months prior when she punched Vaccaro in the face when he neglected to do the laundry.

She went into a rage when she stripped naked and he asked her to lay down.

Save Money, Lust Better

Unlike Luper and Vaccaro, Minnesota couple Shantell and Frank Nei did agree on the car sex act they wanted to have in front of the main entrance of a Walmart. Unfortunately for them, Walmart didn’t agree to their public performance in front of the store — a show that included Shantell “laid back in her seat with her pants down and exposed from the waist down” as Frank gave her oral sex — and initially thought some kind of medical emergency was taking place. The tryst led to the couple receiving multiple charges, including indecent exposure and driving while impaired.

Came That Tune

What would you do if you were sitting in the back of a police car with your significant other and “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe” by Barry White came on the radio? Start engaging in sexual activity, of course! At least you would if you were Zachary Moellendick and Krista Leigh, who had been arrested for theft at Walmart. And if you were Officer Doug McNeal, the cop that arrested them, you would enjoy the show and find yourself in hot water right along with them. During an internal affairs investigation, McNeal claimed that he did notice the couple kissing and was “fine with it,” but he didn’t see them actually having sex. Nonetheless, this voyeurism cost McNeal a suspension for 20 days without pay.
