In the previous article about the root chakra, we learned that the Chakras are the energy centers in the body through which massive amounts of energy flow.

We all have seven chakras aligned inside the body. Each is governed by spiritual laws and principles that we can use to cultivate greater harmony, happiness, and overall well-being.

When all seven chakras are aligned and balanced, we know how to overcome obstacles, let go of emotional blockages, and walk the path towards growth and spiritual consciousness.

The chakras are recharged through the four elements — water, earth, air, and fire.

What is The Sacral Chakra?

The sacral chakra is the second chakra. It is represented by the color orange and is located about three inches below the navel.

It relates to the water element therefore associated with the emotional body, sensuality, sexuality, and creativity.

It controls fluidity, flexibility, flow, versatility, and freedom.

Because it is associated with the realm of emotions, it is the center of our feelings and sensations. It’s particularly active in the expression of our sensual, sexual, and physical desires.

It correlates to things we find pleasure in such as writing, drawing, singing, painting, and dancing.

It also symbolizes our ability to harbor fulfilling relationships with ourselves and others.

It supports personal expansion and the formation of identity through relating to others and to the world.

When The Sacral Chakra is Blocked

When this chakra is blocked, it manifests as a lack of creativity, a lack of sensuality and sexuality, and a dissociation from ourselves and others.

We are ruled and controlled by our emotions when our sacral chakra is weak or blocked. We may feel stuck in a particular mood or feeling longer than necessary.

We may feel numb, out of touch with our feelings and the feelings of others.

A blocked Sacral Chakra can form abusive and controlling relationships, a fear of abandonment, and a fear of losing control in our relationships. We may have trouble being intimate with others.

Imbalances can also manifest as a dependency, co-dependency with other people, or substances that grant us easy access to pleasure.

We may feel emotionally unstable and insecure, which may lead to addictions to drugs, sex, gambling, and money.

It can also manifest as low confidence, lack of motivation, and the inability to create. It leads to a lack of interest in self-expression or artistic abilities.

How to Strengthen The Sacral Chakra

The easiest way to strengthen the sacral chakra is by connecting to water.

You can reconnect with this element by spending time around water, going for a swim, sitting near the sea or flowing stream, or taking a calming and relaxing bath.

To strengthen this chakra, sing and dance like no one is watching, enjoy making love with those you truly love and do creative activities like writing or drawing.

Yoga helps reconnect the physical with the spiritual which can restore balance to the sacral chakra.

Mindful breathing exercises releases tension in the body and mind.

Keeping a journal to help us track our emotions, feel them, and then let them go is also a powerful way to strengthen the Sacral Chakra.

When the Sacral Chakra is balanced, we feel an abundance of creativity and pleasure. We radiate warmth and we feel playful.

A balanced Sacral chakra promotes a healthy ego that allows us to interact with the world without selling ourselves short or pretending to be someone we are not. We can take risks and have the resilience to recover faster when things go wrong.

When the sacral chakra is balanced, the relationship with the world and other people is centered on nurturing, pleasure, and harmony.

We are empowered and confident in every aspect of our life, and we are free to express ourselves.

A healthy and aligned Sacral chakra allows us to source energy for creativity, movement, procreation, desire, pleasure, and healthy relationships.

Final Thoughts

The Sacral Chakra teaches us is that every relationship we create — whether casual or intimidate serves a purpose, no matter how painful, to help us become more consciously aware of our karma and ourselves.

Symbolically and literally, the Sacral Chakra is the birth canal. We can birth a life we want and to start the creative project we’ve always wanted to.

It is in this chakra we design the life we truly want.
