Reasons Why My Cheaters’ Catalog Has Made Me $100s

Stories that keep earning

Photo by Razvan Chisu on Unsplash

I have written 6 stories so far on Medium directly on the subject of infidelity. These are stories that were inspired by events in the lives of people, a few of whom are very close to me. I also write about it because it is something that I too have experienced. It is the way this act negatively affects the lives and relationships of so many people and not just the partners that makes it a very necessary topic of discussion.

You too, perhaps, may have seen how devastating cheating can be. How it is not only capable of wrecking your relationship, your self-esteem, and your overall sense of well-being but in addition to all that, it can lead to a host of other problems like financial instability and even violence. So yes, it is a serious topic.

But why write this much about cheating? Well, relationships play very important roles in our lives and these relationships get impacted severely by infidelity. Therefore, anything with the potential to affect relationships this greatly is worthy of exhaustive deliberation. It is also a very interesting subject for so many other reasons.

“In addition to all that I have also seen infidelity lead to a host of other problems, like financial instability and even violence. So it is serious.”

First and foremost the act raises the questions of why people cheat and what justification, if any, is there for such betrayal. People also wonder if, following the infidelity, there will still be a future for the relationship and how they are to conduct themselves going forward. So many questions.

Experts are also finding that even though most romantic partners insist on exclusivity and any breach of that stipulation can spell disaster, cheating is a fairly common phenomenon. This is leading to more and more debates on whether it is about time we rethink that ‘exclusivity clause’ in romantic relationships.

The stories so far and ranked by their earnings:

My stories try to answer some of those questions. For instance, “A Quick Look Into The Sleazy Mind Of A Micro-Cheater" discusses how when it comes to micro-cheating, so much heartbreak can be avoided simply by partners having early conversations about which seemingly harmless behaviors amount to violations of the exclusivity agreement. A conversation that sadly many couples neglect to have.

Apart from containing stories that try to answer specific questions, another reason why the catalog has done well for me is that with the right topic, you can usually write repeatedly and successfully on a topic by just observing a few simple rules. One rule, for sure, would be that you simply don’t just copy and paste but write from scratch each time you write, and approach the topic from a different angle. And the more questions a topic raises the more angles from which you can write about each time.

Another thing is that in line with the age old wisdom for new writers publishing on Medium, most of the stories were published in a publication. In fact, 4 out of the top 5 on the list were published in my favorite publication: Hello, Love. Only that, my numero uno and the latest story on the subject was self-published and it also happens to be my biggest earner in that category these past couple of months.

Finally, the stories generate a lot of interest because the act itself is usually more complex than it seems to the casual observer. So much so that even with the traditional black-and-white stereotypes about cheaters, in some cases to distinctly place a cheater in the “bad person” category becomes difficult despite their apparent violation. These complexities continue to generate a lot of interest in the topic.

“Only that, my numero uno and the latest story on the subject was self-published and it also happens to be my biggest earner in that category…”
