One Overlooked But Reliable Tip For Extra Views, Reads & Follows

It just takes a little effort because nothing really worthwhile comes without effort

Besides keep writing awesome content, finding the right pubs for your stories, and publishing daily (or at least frequently), there’s one other very valuable tip that’s right up there when it comes to getting extra views and reads and perhaps followers.

What it is

Simply put the tip is, to leave good comments on fellow writers’ stories. But first, you may want to take the time to read the stories so you have something worthwhile and relevant to say.

Your comments don’t have to be bulky, short-form posts in themselves, just something relevant and thoughtful that adds to the conversation.

How it works

  1. It connects you to the writers. Your engagement tells them something resonated with you and most writers will appreciate your insight or perspective even if it differs from theirs.
  2. You also connect with the other readers of those stories by venturing your opinion or sharing your insights on the topic with the benefit of your own experiences or knowledge.

Comment sections of good stories, aside from being a source of inspiration also tend to be a veritable trove of good ideas for future posts. I have also discovered many great writers this way so I never fail to dive into the comments of stories that I have enjoyed.

“I also have discovered many great writers this way so I never fail to dive into the comments of stories that I have enjoyed.”

How do you know it’s working?

  1. The surest way for me is that notification bubble. It tells you the writer also clapped/commented on one of your stories. That sounds a little transaction but I guess it’s their way of appreciating your engagement.
  2. The pay-off I relish the most is when the notification is of another reader that has clapped or replied to my comment, and the next thing I know, that dear clapper claps on one of my own stories which, is just splendid. However, the icing on the cake is when that same lovely clapper follows me or signs up to get my emails all at the same time.

Finally, a word of caution

Some bloggers since time immemorial have callously used comments solely as an avenue to get attention and build their own readership. This should however not be your only motivation to leave comments on stories lest you begin to come off just as another “spammy self-promoter.” Genuine connections are more rewarding long-term.

Takeaways:

  • Comment sections can be a source of inspiration and a veritable trove of great ideas for future posts.
  • You can generate extra views and reads by leaving relevant, thoughtful, and insightful comments on stories you have enjoyed.
  • Leaving those thoughtful comments will create opportunities for new followers/subscribers of your stories.
  • The real rewards come with genuine engagements so don’t engage solely to get attention. It will show and earn you a reputation as a spammy self-promoter which, will hurt you in the long run
