Summary

David, a music teacher, is surprised by an unexpected visit from his student Vivianne's mother, Harriette, during a lesson, leading to an impromptu invitation for a picnic and a complex interplay of emotions as David yearns to join them after his work.

Abstract

In the midst of a violin lesson with Vivianne, David is taken aback when Harriette, Vivianne's mother, arrives unannounced. Despite having finished her work early, Harriette's intention to take Vivianne on a picnic is met with a tentative response from her daughter, who suggests including David. Although David has commitments, he expresses a strong desire to spend time with them once his last student leaves. Harriette initially declines his offer, but David insists, setting the stage for an afternoon together. Throughout the remainder of the lesson, David and Harriette exchange meaningful glances, observed by Vivianne, who remains unaware of the underlying tension. As the lesson concludes, David reiterates his intent to join them, despite Harriette's silent protests, hinting at a budding romance.

Opinions

  • David is emotionally affected by Harriette's presence, indicated by his desire to join the picnic and his internal longing to express his feelings for her.
  • Harriette's visit seems to be motivated by more than just picking up her daughter, as evidenced by her surprise appearance and the shared glances with David.
  • Vivianne appears to be oblivious to the growing attraction between her mother and her music teacher, focusing instead on the dynamics of the violin lesson.
  • The narrative suggests an unspoken connection between David and Harriette, which is developing amidst their roles as teacher and parent.

Play That Game

Episode #14

David and Vivianne looked up both as someone knocked at the door. They were very surprised.

“Continue playing, I’ll open the door.”

David was shocked when he opened the door. He got a huge smile on his face by seeing this special person. ‘She came.’ He opened the door widely for her.

When Vivianne turned around, she saw her mother. She looked very surprised.

“What are you doing here? I thought you had to finish your work?!”

“I finished it and just wanted to pick you up and having a picnic with you?”

“I would love to, mom, but maybe David wants to join?”

David looked to both of them having this conversation. He would love to, but he had one more student before going home and after that, he had more time to spend time with them. His heart bounces so wild, and he didn’t know what to do. Preferably he wanted to take Harriette in his arms and kiss her passionately.

“I think he has other things to do than spending time with us.”

“Actually, I am finished at 1 pm, so after that, I can join you.”

“No, you don’t have to do that”, she tries to mutter, but David already made up his mind.

“Actually, I love to spend time with you. Name a time and location and I’ll be there as soon as my last student is finished.”

“You really don’t have to do that.”

“Why no, he says that he wants to, so be happy he is willing to.”

David smiles as she said that. “You heard your daughter. I am going to be there. So, it is a date?”

‘No it is not a date.’ Harriette looked into his eyes with fear. Sat down on the nearest red chair.

While the lesson continued, David and Harriette looked into the eyes of each other frequently. Vivianne noticed it.

Vivianne packed her violin, while her mom put her phone into her pocket bag.

“See you later, David.”

Vivianne opened the door.

David stood very close: “It is a date.”

“No, it’s not.”
