Summary

The article critiques the humor publication "Doctor Funny" for a perceived decline in quality, with specific mention of contributors like Kristine Laco and Jennifer McDougall, and expresses a hope for improvement in 2023.

Abstract

The author of the article expresses a clear disappointment with the current state of the humor publication "Doctor Funny." Once a platform for genuinely funny content, the author argues that it has lost its way, particularly since the involvement of Michael Burger, the OG Doctor Funny. The article points out that formerly humorous writers like Kristine Laco have resorted to clickbait tactics and unfunny content, while Jennifer McDougall's work has become nonsensical. Despite this, the author remains optimistic, wishing for a funnier Doctor Funny in the coming year. The article also includes a satirical exchange of "notes" between the author and various entities, highlighting the absurdity of the situation.

Opinions

  • The author believes that Michael Burger, the original Doctor Funny, is not inherently funny, which sets a low bar for the publication.
  • There is a sense of sadness that once-funny writers like Kristine Laco have been reduced to "begging for views" and engaging in less humorous activities.
  • The author finds Jennifer McDougall's new content, with its nonsensical titles and content, to be a significant departure from her previous work.
  • The author is critical of the publication's current direction and the type of content that is now being promoted and accepted.
  • Despite the critique, the author is hopeful and optimistic about the potential for Doctor Funny to become funnier in the future.
  • The satirical "notes" from the editors and Doctor Funny suggest a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgment of the article's content and the publication's current state.

I don’t care about your submission guidelines. I’m not adding a kicker. Understood?

I Wish Doctor Funny Were Funnier

But is it possible?

Content Warning: This is a sad story about people who thought they were funny, and they were not. I don’t recommend reading this story if you’re feeling down. [Note from the editors: we don’t recommend reading it, full stop.]

Michael Burger — the OG Doctor Funny isn’t funny, but that’s not a surprise.

Don’t believe me? Click this link. This story with 10,000 claps and 85 comments is tagged humor and satire, and it’s NOT FUNNY.

Michael isn’t the problem, though.

What makes me sad is that he convinced formerly funny people like Kristine Laco and Jennifer McDougall to join his sinking ship of a publication.

Kristine was hilarious before joining Doctor Funny’s editorial team.

She wrote one of the best Airbnb satire I read in my life.

But now, she’s reduced to begging for views.

SAD.

To her credit, it works. Two hundred people clapped for this “story:”

Worse, when Kristine’s not begging for views, she now plays Wordle with the Doctor instead of writing funny articles.

Jennifer is a different (nut)case.

She wasn’t funny before joining the Doctor Funny crew, but at least her titles made sense.

Sorry, WHAT?

Want another example? No problem.

My clit on the ceiling outranks your balls to the walls?!!!

It can’t get any more nonsensical than that. I’m wordless. Or “quiet” if you prefer the wordle way to say it.

A wish for 2023

I’m an incurable optimist. Call me crazy, but I believe in people. I trust they can improve, and I have confidence in their capabilities.

Hence:

My wish for 2023 is for Doctor Funny to be funnier.
