How Common Are Your Partner’s Quirks?

Study outlines the strange things men and women do

Does your partner have quirks that drive you crazy? Are some of their habits outright weird? Or do you have odd routines that make your partner shake their head in bewilderment?

We all have some behaviors that someone else might find peculiar, however, they may not be as uncommon as you think. Superdrug Online Doctor did a survey of 1,500 people to find out the strange things that men and women do and determine just how unusual these behaviors really are. During the survey, respondents admitted:

  • Intentionally delaying bathing to see how bad the odor may get (5.3 percent women, 11.1 percent men)
  • Playing with pubic hair in a nonsexual manner (36.1 percent women, 45.4 percent men)
  • Smelling underwear to see if they’re still wearable (30.9 percent women, 44.3 percent men)
  • Going to bed without washing face (40.1 percent women, 58.9 percent men)
  • Flipping underwear inside out to wear them again (12.6 percent women, 14.2 percent men)
  • Picking nose and eating boogers (30.1 percent women, 33.8 percent men)
  • Delaying eating a meal until finding something good on TV to watch (81.3 percent women, 78.9 percent men)
  • Pacing or walking on furniture when talking on the phone (65.4 percent women, 57.3 percent men)
  • Checking behind the shower curtain before using the bathroom to make sure nothing is there (36.9 percent women, 26.8 percent men)

“These habits are familiar to many of us, rather than uniquely weird vices no one else accepts.”

Not weird enough for you? Researchers also asked about behaviors participants find strangely satisfying and they reported:

  • Enjoying the smell of their own farts (94.1 percent women, 92.7 percent men)
  • Smelling their dirty armpits (95.6 percent women, 93.9 percent men)
  • Peeing in the shower (93.6 percent women, 91.3 percent men)
  • Picking dead skin (96.3 percent women, 93.3 percent men)
  • Picking pimples (93.6 percent women, 91.3 percent men)

Gender Specific Quirks

“The odds are someone you know probably has done the same….”

In order to find out about quirks that are gender specific, researchers surveyed participants on habits only their gender may have. For women, some of the top strange behaviors were:

  • Taking a bra off as soon as they enter the house
  • Shaving only the portion of their legs people will see
  • Smelling genitals to determine how clean they are
  • Deciding to stay home because they already took off their bra for the day
  • Avoiding shaving pubic hair to have an excuse not to hookup with someone

For men, some of the top odd habits were:

  • Moving to free testicles from their leg on a hot day
  • Refusing to wash hands after using the bathroom because they didn’t touch anything
  • Watching genitals move involuntarily
  • Peeing in the sink
  • Moving further away from the toilet to increase the distance of urination

Although some of these habits may be enough to make us rethink our relationship choices, researchers believe this survey proves some routines aren’t as strange as we may think — and they really shouldn’t be anything to be ashamed of.

“Whether you slack on your laundry sometimes or make strange sounds when home alone, we hope our results show you’re in good company. These habits are familiar to many of us, rather than uniquely weird vices no one else accepts,” the blog post about the study explained. “So next time you find yourself acting on one of these quirks or falling short in some way you’d rather not share publicly, give yourself a break. The odds are someone you know probably has done the same — they’re just equally shy about sharing it.”
