Summary

The author is halfway through a 30-day challenge to submit and publish 30 articles to different Medium publications, with 14 articles submitted, 8 published, and 7 curated for further distribution.

Abstract

The author has embarked on a personal challenge to write and publish 30 articles in 30 days, following David Majister's initiative. As of March 16th, the halfway point, 14 articles have been submitted, with 8 being published across various Medium publications. Out of the published pieces, 7 have been selected for further distribution by Medium's curation team. The author notes that the only article not curated was the pledge post for the challenge, which was published in the author's personal publication. This observation leads to speculation that Medium may favor established publications over personal ones. The author reflects on the need to refine their writing style and plans to target larger publications in the second half of the challenge.

Opinions

  • The author believes that Medium's curation system may prefer articles submitted to established publications rather than personal ones, as evidenced by the lack of curation for articles in their personal publication.
  • The author acknowledges the need for improvement in their writing style and consistency, aiming to develop a more defined voice.
  • There is an intention to experiment with submitting to larger publications to increase the chances of curation and reach a broader audience.
  • The author is open to learning from the challenge experience, viewing it as an opportunity for growth and development as a writer.

Curation Result Halfway into My 30 Day Article Challenge

I took David Majister’s challenge to submit (and hopefully publish) 30 articles to 30 different publications over 30 days. I started the challenge on the 2nd of March, and now being the 16th March, I am officially halfway through the challenge.

My pledge post for this challenge can be found here.

At this halfway point, I have submitted 14 articles, with this one being article number 15. 8 articles have been published by different publications, and I am still waiting to hear back from 6 publications. Of the 8 published stories, 7 were curated for further distribution. The only one that was not distributed was my pledge post, which does not surprise me since it was a post about Medium. Besides, I published it in my own personal writing publication and, so far, none of my stories in my personal publication have been curated.

Without further ado, here are the 7 stories that have been curated:

What I’ve learnt:

So far, I have published 19 stories in total in my Medium journey, and 15 of those have been curated. The only ones that have not been curated are the 4 sitting in my personal publication. I am not sure why the articles in my pub have not been curated, but I’ll need to experiment to find improvement.

I think Medium must like established publications, hence why those stories were all distributed immediately.

I need to gain more experience as a writer. My stories and voice are a little haphazard. I need to find a writing style and stick with it.

I will start to aim for some bigger publications now.
