Queerly Trans: Because trans does not equal straight!

From the Editor
THIS MONTH, WE WANT ALL THINGS SUPERHERO!
There are a few things many of us transgender peeps seem to have in common and one I’ve discovered over the years is a kinship for superheroes. Were they characters that represented something we saw in ourselves before we were ready to acknowledge it? Was it their ability to be extraordinary when we were trying to understand why we felt so different? Was it their seeming confidence in their weirdness? Did we resonate with the way they often lived duel lives, or the fabulousness of their costumes, or their willingness to embrace their gift/problem? Was it the way they could both disappear and be famous? Was it that none of them had ‘normal’ lives? Was it that they didn’t conform and they lived their authentic truths? Well, let’s find out!
So, this month, we are calling for all things superheroes! We’re asking our writers to share with you their superhero connection — whatever that means to them. We are going to gather their favorite superhero-focused stories and articles as chosen by them. If you haven’t already, make sure you follow and subscribe to be notified when the Quintessentials is live!
How to Be Included in the Showcase:
Important note: This month, we are accepting TWO showcase submissions per writer as long as they take different approaches to the theme.
So, writers, share with us your superhero things! The theme is superheroes, the rest, is up to you.
Here are some ideas to get you pondering:
- Who is your favorite superhero and why?
- What superhero relates best to your queerly trans fabulosity? (maybe publish on Queerly Trans)
- What would be YOUR superhero persona?
- If you could have any superhero ability, what would it be and why?
- Write a fictional superhero story or poem (maybe publish on Enbyous)
- Brainstorm a superhero novel or film
- Create Captain Queerly Trans, the Trans Rights Caped Crusader! Lol.
Share with us a superhero post you wrote long ago that needs to be revived OR share a new post prompted by this month’s theme.
- Your post DOES NOT need to be published with Queerly Trans — but yes, you CAN submit to QT if your post meets the guidelines.
- Your posts do not have to meet the full QT guidelines (unless published ON QT), but they DO need to meet Medium’s guidelines (of course).
- Drop the link to your showcase piece in the comments. Remember, if you are going to WRITE a new post, you will still need to come back HERE and drop the link in the comments, even if you DO publish on Queerly Trans. As the showcase is SELF-NOMINATION only, if your link isn’t in the comments, it won’t be in the showcase.
Submissions close STRICTLY October 31st at midnight in YOUR timezone.
Please note: though your post does not need to be published on QT, you must be a QT writer to be included in our Quintessentials Showcase. CLICK HERE to apply to write for us.
