Gratitude: Medium Confirmed My Acceptance to Partnership Program Today
I am thrilled and humbled. I’d like to give back to the writers and readers community on Medium.
Dear Readers, Writers, Bloggers, and YouTubers,
I joined Medium as a member on 29 January, 2022 as I mentioned in this story. Within fewer than two weeks, 182 people followed my account.
My first article received 165 views and gained two hours of reading time. This small achievement meant a lot to me. It gave me confidence that some people read what I write.
This is utmost pleasure to me. It did not earn any income but the feeling equates to a million dollars.
I am not a prolific writer yet. On Medium, I posted only seven pieces; two of them are short forms. As mentioned in my first post, I have a full-time job and study part-time specializing in film-making, video production, and video editing.
I am also a professional photographer as part of my family business. As a car enthusiast, I support clients in big car shows in Australia closely working with promoting models.
When I joined Illumination Slack over a month ago as advised by my lecturers at my college, with guidance from Dr Yildiz who mentors me, I met several great editors of his team who gave me valuable advice on writing and meaningful engagement.
In my free time, I read around ten articles daily. I gave my feedback to the authors. I follow the daily curated list by ILLUMINATION.
I read 42 posts and bookmarked hundreds of articles from this collection: Meta Collection of Featured Stories: Easy access to daily selected stories from engaging writers of ILLUMINATION: Volume 3–2022.
I also read the onboarding pack which taught me about the platform rules: Master Copy: Onboarding New Writers. I see it as a treasure trove as I found answers to every question I have about Medium and publications so far.
As a photographer, the photo policy attracted my attention as I know some of my clients have serious issues with copyright infringement in their photos. This is a must read documented by ILLUMINATION’s senior editors: Why Image Copyrights Matter for Writers and Editors.
In addition, during this time, I designed, recorded, and published 11 YouTube videos to give back to the Illumination Integrated Publications. I love voluntary work which gives me personal satisfaction.
I do voluntary work for a few small charity organizations in Australia. While giving back, I gained valuable skills, especially client relationships and communication skills.
When I received an email from Medium confirming that they accepted me to the partnership program, I got nervous but joyful at the same time earlier today. This means that my content can now be monetized.
But I don’t have much time for writing, so I don’t expect to earn much income. It is not an issue for me.
Frankly, I haven’t earned any income from writing so far, even though I have been blogging for a few years. But I earned significant income from creating and editing videos for my clients and photography work in car shows.
My aim on Medium is not to make money but learn about writing and blogging. I want to improve my skills by learning from experienced writers. I also want to build relationships with readers, writers, bloggers, editors, and YouTubers.
Fortunately, Stripe was available in Australia, where I reside. So, I linked it to my account. I had to provide my tax information too. I am glad Medium accepted my business company for tax purposes.
Administrative work aside, I’d like to mention my recent progress. Apart from being an MPP, one of my highlights is creating a new publication.
Dr Yildiz also inspired me to establish a publication to bridge Medium and YouTube. I loved the inspiring post by ILLUMINATION: Why Writers Need Personal Publications!
The purpose of my publication is to allow YouTubers to introduce their videos and get visibility for their channels. Medium writers writing about YouTube and posting videos are also welcome to join.
ILLUMINATION announced my publication. Dr Mehmet Yildiz added it to his integrated publications. It is in his capable hands now and it gives me confidence.
