About Mary Chang: Creator & Editor of Six Word Photo Story Challenge (SWPSC)

More than six words & a photo

She said, “Jump!” Me, “How high?”

The awesome photographer behind this photo offered to do a photoshoot during my fitness journey. I jumped over a dozen times in front of the camera and we shared some “pee your pants” style-laughter together to capture this autumn shot.

I figured this photo would be a great intro for readers to get to know the editor of this publication. Yep, I can jump high — and I write more than just six-word photo stories.

More than Six Words: The Story Behind the Editor

If you know me personally, you’ll find me doing cartwheels, headstands, swimming in the ocean, or racing against my 10-year-old son in the forest trails — he always wins! Or I’ll be snapping photos, writing, hanging out with my favorite people, or indulging in healthy or naughty food, and Netflix.

If you don’t know me, you may know me as the writer who initiated the 6-Word Photo Story Summer Challenge (2021). Or maybe you read my stories about fitness, parenting, writing, life lessons, humor, or memoir pieces ignited by the ’70s & ’80s.

I’m a Gen-Xer, who often writes about inspiration, creativity, perseverance, and defying middle-age— my self-mantra is “Try, Mary, Try!”

More About Me

I’m an award-winning short story fiction writer, memoir writer, blogger, and editor of the Six Word Photo Story Challenge publication — inspired by my original 6-Word Photo Story Summer Challenge writing prompt (2021) on Medium.

I’m also a parent, fitness, and photography enthusiast, love using the F-word when needed — and I’m addicted to creating monthly challenges. My friends tell me that I’m fun to hang out with because I make them laugh, and encourage or inspire them to do things they’ve never tried or didn’t believe they could do.

My self-mantra is “Try, Mary, Try!” And I believe that if I can do stuff that pushes me harder even if it scares me— it may inspire others to try too.
