6-Word Photo Story Summer Challenge — July’s Hottest Stories

July’s Summer Collection of 6-Word Photo Stories by you!

Look, listen, touch — breathe. Nature’s medicine.

The 6-Word Photo Story Summer Challenge is spreading like wildfire through our writing community! To date, over 60 writers have participated — some stop at one, some become addicts and some have fallen in love with the simplicity of how you can tell a story in six words inspired by a photograph taken by yourself.

Shout out to Carlos Garbiras and Will Hull for publishing my first article in their great publication, Counter Arts, and for participating in our challenge with Carlos’ travel observations and Will’s quirky quarantine stories.

On June 29th, I posted a 6-Word Photo Story Summer Challenge and invited writers to either self-publish or publish their stories in SNAPSHOTS, For Awe, or Counter Arts (or elsewhere on Medium that accepts this story style) in July or August 2021. Update: As of August 9, 2021, Counter Arts is no longer accepting this story style. However, Counter Arts is still interested in essays with original photography with a minimum of 250 words of non-fiction.

Thank you everyone for your powerful, funny, happy, sad, inspiring, odd, scary, mysterious, sassy, thought-provoking contributions that were published in July. I read every single story — they added joy to my day.

Photographs trigger memories, not just when you’re writing the 6-word photo stories — but when you’re reading them.

If I look at each story photo link, I can recall what the 6-word story is about — just by glancing at the photo, and sometimes I’ll remember the author.

If you’ve been following the challenge, I dare you to test your memory and see if you can too. Scroll down through the stories and quiz yourself and tell me in the comments how many you can recall, or which ones resonated with you.

The 6-Word Photo Story Summer Challenge continues in August with a NEW SPLASH— please follow me Mary Chang Story Writer to stay tuned for MY NEXT 6-Word Photo Story article with the full details.
