3 Spiritual Metaphors to Help You Understand and Access The Power of God

Take care of the little foxes that spoil the vine

I. The Little Foxes

I didn’t know what it would cost me to walk with God. I didn’t know it would require sacrificing personal desires and interests in order to stay true to godly teachings. I didn’t know I’d have to stop sleeping around and embrace celibacy.

I didn’t know it would mean saying no to certain activities and behaviors that conflict with my faith, even if those behaviors and activities are popular or widely accepted.

I didn’t know I’d have to go around my heart looking and chasing away the little foxes that were spoiling the vine of my heart, weakening my spirit, and preventing me from accessing God’s power.

I didn’t know.

In this modern age, I didn’t know I’d face ridicule or ostracism from friends and fans who do not share my faith. I didn’t know I’d come across as judgmental or intolerant, and may even face discrimination and limitations on many of the platforms on which I do my work. I didn’t know those who hate God would hate me so much they’d try to sabotage my success.

I didn’t know I’d face one spiritual attack after the other, that I would be opposed and limited whenever and wherever I shared God’s messages. I didn’t know my mind would feel like a battlefield and that life would feel like one warfare after the other.

That is the cost of walking with God and I gladly pay.

If, like me, you want to release the anointing of God; you desire a good thing. It is a great thing to desire the power of God, but the power of God in your life is directly proportionate to the purity within your life and for this, you must take care of the little sins that prevent the anointing from finding you.

It’s not just about releasing the power of God, but the tiny things that are seemingly insignificant are the things that, over time, destroy you.

Tomorrow’s anointing is destroyed by today’s sin.

In holy temples, God dwells. The Holy Spirit brings power and dwells within everyone who believes, but not all of us live in a way that we are accessing that power. We all sin and we do it every day. To sin is to fall short of the mark set by God to access his power and to miss the mark of one’s own higher self to live a godly life.

The truth is that no one would sin if the consequences were paid immediately. It takes a while for sin to have an effect on your life.

Most of us find ourselves compromised in three primary areas. Greed, power, and sexual sin. When it comes to sexual sin, it’s not even about God, it’s about you. Sex is a purely spiritual act. Each person transfers energy to the other during sex. There is a transmission of diseases. The moods of others are passed on. Trauma can be passed on from person to person. It is also possible to pass on power, which is why people tend to give away their power to those they have become emotionally attached to through unhealthy soul ties. Purity requires rules and boundaries.

To receive power from God, you must learn to guard yourself against temptations that lead to sexual sin.

Temptation is not an event. It’s a process. It’s not the moment you fall that you fell. It was the compromises leading up to that moment that ultimately prepared you for that fall.

When it comes to power and greed, there’s a limit to how much you can achieve. A power that comes slowly builds your character. A power that comes quickly builds your ego. Power greediness can compromise your purity. It can make you do things to gain more power and this power builds your ego which eventually leads to your downfall.

If you wish to encounter God and access his power, holiness, and purity are required. As your body is a temple, God must make his dwelling within you in order for you to have access to his power.

If there are things in your life that you need to purify to get right with God in order to access his power, then now is the time to do it. Be honest with yourself. Have a look at the little things that prevent the anointing from finding you.

Take care of the little foxes that spoil the vine.

“But among God’s people, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.”

II. Poisons in The Heart

I didn’t know accessing God’s power would mean I would have to let go of the anger in my heart or get rid of the bitterness that I was holding onto. I’ve been angry and bitter. I can admit it.

It’s easy to be bitter when it feels like life has wronged you. Certain things that happened in my life weren’t fair. I’ve been hurt and betrayed and so I’ve been angry. I was spending and expending my energy on things I was supposed to forgive and so I kept giving all of my power away.

When I was angry at those who had wronged me and didn’t care how they hurt me, I was holding bitterness in my heart. I was poisoning my own heart.

Very few things can hold you back from feeling God’s power like bitterness. Bitterness builds up in your heart and starts to flow through everything you do, even if it’s God’s work. Bitterness often leads to jealousy when you want what another person has been blessed with. Then serving God becomes a competition about who has more views, more likes, or more followers.

Bitterness and jealousy will destroy your mission and prevent you from releasing the anointing of God. It poisons your heart so the power of God cannot flow to overflow so it can flow to those around you.

Competition, comparison, jealousy, and bitterness will all hold back the anointing of God. They are like poison to the heart. They hurt no one but you.

I know much better now. I could no longer hold on to bitterness. I had to let go of the anger. I wanted to be used by God and I needed the power to do the work, so I had to forgive the past.

I had to stop comparing myself and my work to other people. I needed to focus on doing the work that had been assigned to me and stop worrying about what others were doing. I had to change and become a new person who was capable of accessing the power of God.

“But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. ”

III. Worship in The Spirit

I had no idea seeking God’s power would mean being in a constant state of worship.

As I learn more, I realize the power of God doesn’t come free. The price is worship.

You’ve heard it being said that worship is not just a song, but a lifestyle. That is true, but worship is also a song.

Music is spiritual. Music is like a key that unlocks the door to the soul, with the verses opening the door wider. This is why people listen to ungodly music and become depressed or tormented. It’s why others listen to godly music and they’re uplifted.

Music opens the door to the soul, and the spoken words then go deeper reaching the depths of your spirit. The revelation of who God is stirs a state of awe within your spirit that results in a natural response of worship.

I’m always in awe of the way God moves in my life and in the world in general. When I think of everything that God has revealed to me and the power that I have been able to access, I can’t help but turn into a song.

Worship is a natural response to the revelation of who God is. It is a state of being wowed by God. It’s the awe that causes you to sing out in worship.

But those who worship must worship in spirit and in truth and it has to be both. True worship is not just a song, but a lifestyle of being wowed by God, and it requires both spirit and truth to be effective.

The truth is the revelation you receive, and you cannot worship without a revelation. You can sing and dance and clap without a revelation, but you cannot truly worship without a revelation.

And you cannot truly worship God without the presence of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the necessary component to achieve a true worship experience, as it is through the revelation of God’s nature that the anointing power is released. Until you’ve caught a glimpse of the majestic nature of God, your own spirit will not respond to worship.

When you get this revelation and are filled with the Spirit of God, that’s when true worship begins and true worship releases the anointing power of God into your life.

Every person who believes has the power of the Holy Spirit. But it’s not about getting more power through the Holy Spirit. It’s about the Holy Spirit getting more of you.

For the Holy Spirit to have more of you, you must take care of the little foxes that spoil the vine, remove the things that poison your heart, and worship God in spirit and in truth.

Worship pleases God, and when God is pleased, he gives you the desires of your heart. If it’s power you desire, it is slowly released into your life as you bask in the glory and wonder of God’s creation.

“For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
