Summary

The provided text discusses the concept of the spiritual ego, its dangers, and the importance of transcending it to truly embody spiritual growth.

Abstract

The article "The Only Thing Worse Than Ego Is a Spiritual Ego" delves into the subtleties of the spiritual ego, which is described as more dangerous than the physical ego due to its deceptive nature. It emphasizes that while a sense of pride in one's spiritual journey is natural, allowing the ego to inflate under the guise of spirituality can lead to a lack of humility, empathy, and genuine understanding. The spiritual ego manifests when individuals believe they are superior to others, have transcended the need for learning, or become overly confident in their spiritual achievements. The text warns that this ego can disguise itself as love and light while causing internal havoc and hindering true spiritual ascension. It suggests that the spiritual journey involves recognizing and managing the ego, allowing the higher self to lead, and maintaining humility and compassion.

Opinions

  • A spiritual ego is subtly deceptive and can be more harmful than an overt physical ego because it operates under the pretense of love and light.
  • The moment one identifies as spiritual, there is a risk of developing a spiritual ego, which can be detrimental if not recognized and transcended.
  • Spiritual narcissism is an extreme form of spiritual ego, characterized by judgmental, mean, and ruthless behavior towards others.
  • The universe resists the ascension of individuals with a swollen spiritual ego, suggesting a karmic or cosmic consequence for egoistic attitudes.
  • True spirituality is associated with humility, and a lack of humility taints one's spirituality.
  • The ego serves a purpose in survival and decision-making but should not be the driving force in one's life; it should be kept in check by the higher self.
  • The higher self is portrayed as the ideal driver of one's life journey, being wise, understanding, and respectful of others.
  • The ego should be acknowledged, tamed, and trained to recognize its limitations and the vast knowledge of the higher self.
  • Holding oneself in high esteem is acceptable, but it should not lead to pride or looking down on others, as this impedes personal growth and learning.

Ego and the higher self

A Spiritual Ego Is Difficult to Catch

A spiritual ego is the most subtle but dangerous type of ego to develop. It isn’t aggressive but it disguises itself as love and light, while it wreaks havoc in the darkness.

Because it isn’t as aggressive as the physical ego, it’s very difficult to catch. It hides beneath the surface, making a person feel as if he has it all figured out when, in reality, they still have so much to learn.

The moment we establish we’re spiritual, there’s a subtle sense of pride that rises within, and that's okay when we look at how far we've come. Because of that, the spiritual ego will always be there, but it’s something we must transcend.

When we don't rise above the ego and we use spirituality to feed it, it grows out of control. Then a person starts to think they're special, and that’s why they were called to awaken. They then look down on others who aren't awakened.

Spiritual ego, if not caught, can easily turn into spiritual narcissism, which makes a person mean, ruthless and judgmental and goes around pointing out the flaws in everybody while turning a blind eye to their own flaws.

It's the ego that makes people attack others when they can’t agree with them instead of politely agreeing to disagree.

A spiritual ego disguises itself under fake and toxic positivity. It can make you feel as though everyone is just too negative and dense and is out to get you or drag you down. But that might not be the case.

When you develop a spiritual ego, the universe itself will be out to get you.

The universe will not allow a person with a huge spiritual ego to ascend. Even if the universe lets you pass through, your own massive, swollen ego will drag you back down.

Spiritual ego, if not caught, can easily turn into spiritual narcissism, which makes a person mean, ruthless, and judgmental.

The Spiritual Ego Is the Ego in a High Vibration

The physical ego is our sense of self. The spiritual ego builds on top of the physical ego. It is the physical ego in a high vibration.

The spiritual ego can make you feel as if everyone is stuck in the matrix and refuses to wake up. It makes you see yourself as the master. The teacher.

You believe you have it all figured out and others are clueless.

You believe you have the answers people need. It gives you the feeling that you are the smartest person in the room. It makes you feel as if you’re right, and others are just stupid.

When a person goes around announcing to the world and boasting that they are spiritual, enlightened, high vibrational or whatever term they may use, it’s always almost the spiritual ego talking.

True spirituality doesn’t boast.

A truly spiritual person is the most humble person you will ever meet. If humility isn’t present, spirituality is tainted.

When your spirituality is tainted, you lack empathy and compassion. You lack the ability to understand that everybody’s journey is different and we aren’t all called to wake up in this lifetime.

The Ego in the Driver’s Seat Doesn’t Know How to Act

Ego isn't the enemy. It’s a part of you. It assists us in making decisions so we don’t find ourselves in the wrong situations.

You need your ego to survive, but the ego in the driver’s seat doesn’t know how to act. It goes too fast, and it cuts people off.

The ego is an aggressive driver that suffers from road rage fighting and attacking others on the same road.

The ego isn’t fit to drive, and it’s not even fit to ride shotgun because it is too aggressive and a know-it-all who won't let you concentrate on the road.

The driver's seat belongs to the higher self. It is more equipped to lead the way because it’s wise, more understanding, and respectful of others on the same road.

So where does that leave the ego if we need it to survive?

The perfect place for the ego is the backseat. In the back, it can watch your back and alert you when there’s danger following you.

A truly spiritual person is the most humble person you will ever meet. If humility isn’t present, spirituality is tainted.

The Ego Isn’t Something You Must Get Rid Of

The ego is something you tame and then train. You train your ego to understand that it doesn’t know everything. Honestly, it knows nothing compared to what the higher self knows.

The ego is something you get under control. If you don’t control it, it controls you.

You can know a lot and still understand you don’t know everything. There’s something to be learned in every encounter, but you must be humble in order to learn.

There’s nothing wrong with holding yourself in high esteem, but you can do that without being prideful. You can do that without stepping and looking down on others.

Holding yourself in high esteem is great, but being overly confident causes a swollen ego that literally gets in the way of everything.
