2 of My Articles Went Semi-Viral (1k+ views) and I Am Still Not Sure Why

I have written over 50 articles. I don't think these 2 were the best ones.

2 of my articles went Semi-Viral. I am happy but am struggling to see why this was the case and more importantly, how these were better than my other 50 articles.

Semi- Viral is a term that was first introduced by none other than me, right this second. It is to describe a post that receives over 1,000 views.

The below articles are the two that did just that.

Here is a screenshot of the cheeky stats below:

Semi-Viral articles — Image taken by author

Why did these articles get more traction than the others?

Honestly, no idea. I can’t see that either of them got curated in a category. Why Is Everyone Quitting Their Corporate Jobs? was published in Illumination and Why I Got Fired From My Job as HR Director was in The Haven. But I have used these Publications for most of my stories that haven’t produced anywhere near as many views.

Why Is Everyone Quitting Their Corporate Jobs? — is a career piece that many can identify with.

Why I Got Fired From My Job as HR Director — is a joke piece about an awful HR Director. Maybe many found it funny because they hate their HR team? I don't know.

All I know is, I have written many other pieces that I thought were just as good or better. But these didn't get much reception at all.

The below articles are the ones that in my humble opinion that deserved more love. These are in the same categories as my semi-viral articles.

What is my point?

My point is, you can’t guarantee success, whatever you write. You may think you have written an amazing piece that will defiantly get lots of views and attention. But it might not. And it is almost impossible to predict which ones will do well.

What it shows is you have to keep writing and publishing consistently, regardless of how many views you receive. Some pieces that didn't take you long to write will make you some decent money. Other pieces that took you a while will make you next to nothing.

This doesn’t just mean focus on quantity over quality. Your articles need to still be well written and well thought out. But I would avoid writing once a week and spending all your time on one piece. Because if it doesn’t immediately do well, it could cause demotivation quite fast. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket and all that.

I tend to write every day and then move on. I don’t dwell on past articles. Once I believe it is in a good place, I click publish and move on to the next piece. For me, this is the only way I will continue to write regularly.
