What Makes a Good Life?
I celebrated my birthday last week.

As a part of my yearly ritual to celebrate my birthday, I made a cup of masala hot tea, put on my favorite pajamas, and settled on a comfortable couch with my laptop on my lap.
It’s warm and sunny outside and I am kinda liking it.
Mildly listening to Frédéric Chopin piano compositions. I recently become obsessed with classical instrumental music.
Though, I can hear the birds chirping outside through my patio wall to wall glass door. It’s vibing with me.
I wanted everything to be perfect as I began writing about my accomplishments and the things that didn’t go as planned.
As I started typing and sipping my tea in between, I realized that life is good.
It’s not because I have everything, but because I am at peace within myself.
My mind is no longer racing, constantly telling me to do more, run faster, or comparing myself to my friends and those around me.
At this point, I no longer feel the need to prove myself to others.
I am ready to live for myself, to fall in love with simply being me, and to make time for activities that bring me joy and make my heart sing.
That’s my intention for the year ahead, for sure.
Below are the things I am indulging in to live a fulfilling life.
It’s okay to prioritize self-care and allow ourselves the freedom to recharge and find joy without guilt.
#1 Taking a Mental Day Off to do absolutely nothing:
I have been running at lightning speed throughout my life, constantly striving to do more and be at the forefront.
In my pursuit of success and productivity, I often overlook the crucial need for rest and rejuvenation.
As a result, I have felt burned out and exhausted.
A colleague recently shared her approach to prioritizing personal well-being by taking mental days off from work.
It allows her to slow down, reset her priorities, and reassess what truly matters in life.
Isn’t wonderful?
Taking a mental day off allows us to recharge our minds and bodies, reducing stress and enhancing overall mental well-being.
It is essential to prioritize self-care and give ourselves permission to take a break without feeling guilty.
By allowing ourselves this time, we can return to our responsibilities with increased focus, creativity, and energy.
#2 Indulging in Enjoyment without calculating expenses:
I am not saying you need to go blind and spend extravengently.
But instead of calculating your bank balance everytime, it’s okay to allow ourselves to indulge in things that bring us joy without constantly calculating the cost.
Whether it’s a special treat, a hobby, or a memorable experience, investing in our own happiness is an essential part of self-care.
By releasing the guilt associated with spending money on enjoyment, we give ourselves permission to savor life’s simple pleasures and create meaningful memories.
In this book, Ramit Sethi explained on stop getting distracted by $10 or $100 questions and focus much more on so-called $30,000 questions instead.
#4 Engaging in Non-Judgmental Conversations with friends & family:
True friendships and relationships sthrive on open and non-judgmental conversations.
When we allow ourselves to let go of judgment and truly listen to our friends, we create a safe space for vulnerability and connection.
By engaging in heartfelt conversations without passing judgment, we foster trust, empathy, and support.
These genuine connections enhance our mental well-being and provide a source of comfort and strength during challenging times.
#5 Making Time for Daily Family Connections:
In the midst of busy schedules, it is important to prioritize quality time with our families.
Whether it’s sharing a meal, or weekly dinner dates, engaging in a shared activity, or simply having meaningful conversations, these moments foster love, understanding, and a sense of belonging.
By consciously dedicating time to your families every day, we build stronger bonds, create cherished memories, and cultivate a supportive foundation that enriches our lives.
Conclusion:
In a world that often prioritizes productivity and achievement over self-care and genuine connections, it is essential to break free from the guilt and embrace practices that enhance our well-being.
- Taking a mental day off,
- Indulging in enjoyable experiences without calculating expenses,
- Engaging in non-judgmental conversations with friends, and
- Making time for daily family connections
are all vital aspects of a balanced and fulfilling life.
By incorporating these practices into our routine, we nourish our minds, nurture relationships, and create a harmonious blend of self-care and meaningful connections.
So, let us embrace the importance of self-care without guilt and cultivate a life that is abundant in joy, connection, and well-being.
Let’s try this.
