Summary

The article discusses the most common sexual faux pas according to a survey by Superdrug Online Doctor, revealing both frequent embarrassing moments during sex and behaviors that could be considered deal breakers.

Abstract

The Superdrug Online Doctor survey, which included 2,000 participants from the United States and Europe, identified the most common embarrassing sexual moments, such as muscle cramps, premature endings, and accidental interruptions. The study also explored behaviors that might lead to the end of a sexual relationship, with calling someone by the wrong name topping the list, followed by loud flatulence, and other bodily function mishaps. The article emphasizes that while many of these mistakes are preventable, they occur frequently and can have significant implications for a relationship.

Opinions

  • The article suggests that context plays a crucial role in how we perceive mistakes, with sexual blunders often causing more embarrassment than similar errors in non-sexual situations.
  • It is implied that while some sexual faux pas are minor and can be laughed off, others, like being called by the wrong name, are serious enough to be considered deal breakers.
  • The article conveys that there is a level of commonality in what men and women consider unacceptable sexual behavior, indicating a shared perspective on certain intimate boundaries.
  • The survey results indicate that bodily functions during sex, such as farting or urinating, are widely viewed as highly embarrassing and potentially relationship-ending.
  • There is an underlying tone that, despite the potential for embarrassment, there is also an element of humor and relatability in the shared experiences of sexual mishaps.

What Are the Biggest Sexual Faux Pas?

Mistakes happen. All the time. But when we make certain mistakes during a sexual encounter, they may put a pall of embarrassment over our otherwise erotic times.

“Seemingly innocuous things…ranked among the top blunders lovers confessed.”

In a survey of 2,000 people in the United States and Europe, Superdrug Online Doctor found out what people’s biggest sexual faux pas are, and the following topped the list of respondents’ most embarrassing sexual moments.

  • Getting a muscle cramp (13.3 percent)
  • Left the window open (11.3 percent)
  • Only lasted a couple minutes (11.3 percent)
  • Knocked something over (9.9 percent)
  • Been interrupted by someone walking in (7.2 percent)
  • Spilled something (6.1 percent)
  • Fallen off bed or couch (6 percent)
  • Bent your/someone else’s penis the wrong way (6 percent)
  • Broken a bed frame or couch (5.5 percent)
  • Farted loudly (4.5 percent)

“When it comes to the mistakes we experience in life, context is everything. While we may walk off a muscle cramp earned after a hearty game of football with friends, we are nearly horrified when it occurs during sex,” the company’s blog post explained. “Seemingly innocuous things — like getting a muscle cramp or leaving the windows open — ranked among the top blunders lovers confessed. The good news: They’re mostly preventable. The bad news: They happen all the time.”

In some cases, mistakes may happen one time too many for the relationship to continue. Survey participants were also asked what behaviors would cause them to end a sexual relationship and here are the faux pas they considered deal breakers.

  • If someone called you by the wrong name (19.1 percent)
  • If someone farted loudly (13.5 percent)
  • If someone farted silently, but deadly (12.4 percent)
  • If someone peed a little (10.2 percent)
  • If someone asked to film you (7 percent)
  • If someone burped (6.9 percent)
  • If someone kissed, licked, or sucked on your foot (5.8 percent)
  • If your/someone else’s penis bent the wrong way (3.9 percent)
  • If someone only lasted a couple minutes (3.9 percent)
  • If someone sneezed on you (3.9 percent)

According to the study, men and women were on the same page when it came to the top sexual deal breakers that would cause them to banish a bed buddy from their boudoir for good — being called the wrong name, farting loudly, farting silently but deadly, and peeing a little.
