Dear gaming enthusiasts and writers, I have some exciting news!
Starting December 1st, 2023, our little powerhouse, Illumination Gaming, has proudly earned the esteemed Boost Nomination acceptance from Medium.com. This recognition marks a significant milestone, launching our publication to new horizons.
I am profoundly grateful for the acknowledgment and the opportunities it unveils for us. To commemorate this achievement and guide you through contributing to Illumination Gaming, I’ve prepared insights on leveraging the Boost Nomination process for your benefit.
Gaming isn’t just a hobby for me; it’s a passion that occasionally makes me forget to eat. Back in 2022, I transformed this fever into a Medium publication, carving a space where gaming writers can truly shine.
Creating Illumination Gaming was just the beginning.
I envision this publication as part of a larger and more expansive entity. This vision led to the union with Illumination Integrated Publications, boasting over 27,000 writers and reaching an impressive readership of over 76,000. It’s like joining an epic raid party with all the essential buffs in place.
While the Illumination community warmly embraced our endeavor, in August 2023, Medium shifted gears, prioritizing quality over quantity. This change prompted us to revamp our submission guidelines, ensuring our stories get the spotlight they rightfully deserve. Now let’s delve into the Boost program and its benefits for writers.
The Boost program kicked off in November 2022 and gained traction in August 2023. It represents a pivotal shift from focusing solely on quality to reaching a broader audience through high-quality content. Medium rewards well-crafted, impactful stories, and the Boost program serves as one of the recognition attributes.
Unlike the previous algorithmic selection, human curators now review stories for quality, impact, and alignment with Medium standards. If your story aligns, it gets programmed into the distribution system, leveraging the platform’s automation to amplify its reach.
Boosted stories garner increased visibility and engagement, earning more income for writers. My advice? Invest time and effort into crafting these stories. Writing one story per week in Medium’s quality standards can be more valuable than crafting seven stories that fall short.
How does Medium select stories for boosting, you ask?
After finishing your draft, ask yourself five key questions.
First, is my story impactful and constructive? Second, is my story original? Third, do I write from relevant experience? Fourth, is my story well-crafted? And fifth, does my story feel memorable? Answering yes significantly enhances your chances.
However, boosting isn’t guaranteed. When we nominate an exceptional story, Medium curators consider other factors, like the topic’s importance and broader audience interest. For Illumination Gaming submissions, here are some tips:
- We accept original and draft-only content. Ensure your stories are unique, avoiding plagiarism and duplication.
- Immersive storytelling that resonates with your ideal audience is crucial. Keep it truthful and authentic, avoiding misleading information.
- Provide valuable insights and clear takeaways while ensuring your writing flows smoothly from start to finish.
- Pay attention to formatting, titles, subtitles, and images. Each story needs at least one copyright-free image relevant to the topic.
- Self-edit rigorously, focusing on accuracy and readability. Review for errors, validate links and disclose affiliate links transparently.
- We only accept human-generated content. AI-generated content is not allowed in this publication, although it is allowed in the Lampshade of Illumination.
These guidelines will help craft compelling stories and engage your audience. Our aim is to create captivating tales and unforgettable adventures.
