Summary

The webpage discusses the transformative impact of DALL·E 2, an AI-driven image generation tool, on the creative industry, emphasizing its ability to produce diverse artistic content and the conscious limitations imposed by OpenAI to manage its use.

Abstract

The article "The New Rules of AI Art by DALL·E 2" delves into the capabilities of the AI tool DALL·E 2, highlighting its potential to revolutionize the creative industry by enabling the creation of images in any style based on textual descriptions. It underscores the tool's access to the vast visual knowledge of humanity and its ability to generate content on demand, with the only limit being the user's imagination. The piece also addresses the responsible use of AI in art, noting OpenAI's decision to restrict generations to 50 per user per day, a move that reflects an understanding of AI's power and the need to protect society from rapid technological changes. The author reflects on the purpose of art and the role of AI, suggesting that the goal of AI-generated art is not necessarily to represent truth but to evoke emotion and communicate with the viewer, much like human artists aim to do.

Opinions

  • The author believes that DALL·E 2's ability to create from the entire collective visual consciousness of humanity sets it apart as a groundbreaking tool in the creative industry.
  • There is an appreciation for the limitations set by OpenAI, which are seen as a way to enhance creativity and ensure responsible use of AI technology.
  • The carbon footprint associated with generating AI art is acknowledged as a significant concern, highlighting the need for awareness about the environmental impact of machine learning.
  • The author suggests that the purpose of AI art is not to depict truth but to move the viewer, drawing a parallel between AI artists and human artists in their desire to communicate and evoke emotion.
  • The article implies that the definition of "truth" in art is subjective and varies from person to person, reinforcing the idea that art's purpose is to enable individuals to perceive their own truths.
  • The author expresses that the true potential of AI in art is realized when the tool is used with a clear goal in mind, and when the artist behind the AI understands the content and context of what they are creating.

No one can deny the power of Machine Learning, and it is only growing. We are an increasingly AI-driven society, from voice assistants to robots to virtual reality. The AI artist can create imagery in any style within a single sentence. It is a new world, one that is entirely different from the art world of traditional galleries and museums.

This article is about DALL·E 2, an AI-powered image generation tool. DALL·E 2 will change the creative industry forever because of two reasons: 🟠 the tool can create from the entire collective visual consciousness of humanity available today, 🔵 you can use this tool to generate content in any style.

Open AI introduced a limitation — 50 generations a day. However, it is a conscious choice that demonstrates the understanding of the power of artificial intelligence.

I asked myself: If the limitation increases creativity, then what happens in my case if I would apply this tool to generate graphics? Knowing the tool’s power is appreciated when you know the generated images’ enormous carbon footprint and power. Restrictions also apply to content. It was similar to GPT 3. Humanity should be protected from too quickly experiencing the changes that come with the power of technology.

DALL·E 2 is similar to GPT 3 but differs in its more advanced artificial intelligence. Creates on-demand content. The only limitation is your imagination. And that is the most critical element for me. As in GPT3, the general topic’s knowledge to which the generated content relates allows for the effective use of the tool. Without knowing it, you only create cocaine for the eyes, as Eva Rtology writes.

“The purpose of art is to represent truth by the use of beauty.”

As an AI artist, I can say that the above sentence is irrelevant because my purpose is not to represent truth but an internal imperative. It orders me to use the tool to move the viewer. I can say, however, that this imperative is absolutely similar to man’s internal desire to communicate with others.

I’m not interested in representing the “truth.” The “truth” is a different metaphysical concept for each person. Even when it comes to the same thing, it allows each person to see something else because we do not see the same things through the same eyes. Machine Learning fits my purpose and gives me a goal to move the viewer.

“art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth” Picasso

The above sentence is difficult to understand because art and lies are the same difference between man and machine. However, it makes an artist just ask themselves: “What do I want to achieve with this tool?”

Open AI provided me with the tools to achieve my goal.

My work is my best self.
