The Majister of All Writing Challenges
David Majister’s 30 Articles in 30 days to 30 Different Publications
I am starting a new writing challenge on the 1st of May. It is the one taking Medium by storm, first developed by David Majister.
If you haven’t read about it yet, here’s a link to the original challenge.
The rules are pretty simple.
Write an article a day for 30 days and submit each one to a different publication.
30 days. 30 articles. 30 DIFFERENT publications. OMG! What have I got myself into?
My aim for the 30-day challenge.
I am aiming for the stars with this challenge.
I am going all out, making a solid plan and this time I will stick to it!
My goals:
- Double my amount of followers. Currently sitting at 137 followers. So by the end of May, I would love to see this amount doubled to 274.
- Build a network and form more connections. I love this community and have already made some amazing friends and connections. I want to continue to build relationships and be more active within this Medium community.
- Make May my highest earning month ever! I was a little disappointed with my March challenge results, so I am hoping another challenge will help boost my income! Even though March was my highest earning month, it still came in at a measly $2.33. Not enough to cover the cost of a paid Medium Membership. This month I am aiming for $50. Small. Achievable (I hope). And will cover the cost of my membership!
Why am I doing another writing challenge?
Even though I didn’t reach my goal of 31 articles in March, I loved challenging myself.
The 30-day challenge set out by David Majister provides another way to improve upon my writing, increase the number of publications I am a writer for and grow my portfolio.
All wins in my book!
The rules I have set out for myself.
Every challenge needs rules, right?
I have kept my rules simple:
- Submit a new article a day to a different publication.
- If the article is rejected I can submit it to another publication, but it will not count as a new article.
- The articles can be on any topic, as long as they fit the guidelines of the publication I am submitting to.
- Submit a total of 30 articles in 30 days.
- Write the articles ahead of time wherever possible.
My plan of attack for the 30-day writing challenge.
Don’t mess wit’ me. I’m the Plan Master. I’ve Mastered the Plans. (Yes, this was said in Donkeys’ voice “I am a stair master”.)
I love to plan, and this has certainly come in use for this 30-day writing challenge.
I created a spreadsheet with several tabs:
- Plan
- Article Ideas
- Publications
Under the first tab, “plan”, I have set out headings for:
- Article number
- Article name
- Status (outlined, written, edited, submitted).
- Publication
- Submission Date
- Response Date
- Response (Published, Rejected, No Response)
The second tab is simply a list of article ideas.
I have SO many ideas. I am aiming to collate a wide variety of ideas so that I have several to pick from when targeting specific publications. This way I don’t box myself in too much and stifle my creativity.
And the third tab is a list of publications I want to submit articles to.
I have several headings:
- Publication name with a link to their Medium publication site.
- How to submit (email, form on their page, message, comment etc) or with a comment that I am already a writer.
- Topics
- Submission guidelines
- Notes
This keeps all the information handy in one document so I don’t have to go searching through Medium every time I want to know more about a certain publication I want to submit to.
I use Asana to keep me on track.
I have input all the articles I have planned so far and given them due dates. This keeps me accountable and organised!
Asana is one of my favourite tools for project management. I use it for EVERYTHING!
Hello to a hectic May!
I know it is going to be a busy month, but with plenty of planning, organisation and using my time wisely I know I will be successful!
