Happiness is in discovering cat love
I was always a dog person.
Till I met Cuddles, the Cat.
As most “cat people” will tell you, you don’t choose a cat. A cat chooses you.
I like to think Cuddles chose me.
He was one of four kittens we discovered in the large compound outside our house. Their mother stayed with them for the initial weeks, and then she disappeared. We collectively looked after her kittens for a couple of weeks until different neighbors took in all of them.
But for some reason, Cuddles adopted me.
I didn’t want a cat initially because I lived on my own in those days and traveled a lot for work at short notice. I wasn’t sure how a cat would fit into the equation.
But Cuddles decided the most appropriate place for himself was on the mat outside my door. He then proceeded to claw his way into my heart. You can see him in action in the picture.
Happiness for him was finding his human.
For me, it was finding my cat.
The biggest stress buster for me in those days was returning after a hard day’s work and cuddling my cat. That was how he got his name. Cuddles really gave anybody who he loved the best cuddles.
There is something indescribably beautiful about the trust and complete of acceptance of an animal that loves you.
It is pure, unadulterated happiness. I believe the only thing that comes close is the love of a little child. People usually associate this with dogs. But for me, happiness was in discovering a little cat who loved me and who I came to love too.
