Summary

Diana C.'s 30-Day Poetry Challenge explores the intersection of science and spirituality, emphasizing the importance of wisdom, balance, and the unity of diverse beliefs and experiences.

Abstract

Diana C.'s poetry challenge delves into the synthesis of science and spirituality, advocating for a holistic approach to understanding the universe. It reflects on the nature of wisdom, the importance of asking the right questions, and the acceptance of multiple truths. The challenge references the concept of syncretism, the blending of different beliefs and practices, and suggests that both science and spirituality are paths to truth. It also touches on the role of emotions in achieving balance, as understood in Ayurvedic philosophy, and challenges the notion of "ego death" in spiritual awakening, proposing instead the integration and alignment of the ego and soul.

Opinions

  • The author believes that wisdom involves loving the whole and embracing a diversity of thoughts and experiences.
  • Spirituality is seen as an individual journey of discovery, contrasting with religion's emphasis on accepting others' thoughts.
  • The quest for truth through science and spirituality is considered to be fundamentally the same.
  • The articles suggest that balance in emotions and thoughts is essential for personal health and well-being, akin to natural processes like earthquakes and thunderstorms.
  • There is a critique of the spiritual community's view of the ego as inherently negative, advocating for the necessity of

This tanka is inspired by the thoughts behind the day-18 and day-21 prompts: “Wisdom is loving the whole” and “A path that marries science and spirituality,” which triggered many thoughts in me reflected by and in the following:

“Religion cannot stand Spirituality. It cannot abide it. For Spirituality may bring you to a different conclusion than a particular religion — and this no known religion can tolerate. Religion encourages you to explore the thoughts of others and accept them as your own. Spirituality invites you to toss away the thoughts of others and come up with your own.”

― Neale Donald Walsch, The Complete Conversations with God

Wikipedia defines Syncretism as:the combining of different beliefs, while blending practices of various schools of thought. Syncretism involves the merging or assimilation of several originally discrete traditions, especially in the theology and mythology of religion, thus asserting an underlying unity and allowing for an inclusive approach to other faiths.

Reverie writes in:

The way I see it, the quest for science and the quest for spirituality are the same quest. The quest for truth.

Keri Mangis writes in:

In Ayurvedic philosophy, everything that we can see, and not see, in the Universe is comprised of some combination of the Five Great Elements. This includes the stars, the trees, the oceans. It also includes our bodies, our thoughts, and, of course, our emotions.

The goal of Ayurveda for personal health and well-being is to bring about balance. Balance is achieved when the elements work in harmony with each other — i.e., not too much or too little of any one element.

Just like the earth finds balance through an earthquake, a hurricane, a thunderstorm, we, too, find balance through expressing our emotions in healthy ways.

Back at the beginning of March I wrote in:

I am sick and tired of this nonsense about “ego death.” Greg’s experiences are very much imprinted upon the soul of Marcus. We are the same being.

The ego does not die. It evolves. I evolve. I integrate and align.

Keri responded yesterday:

me too. I’m tired of the spiritual community telling us that ego is bad, that to move or live from ego is bad. We learn different things via our egos than we do our souls. That’s entirely what I was trying to show with my book — Séri was in the Soul Realm learning, Keri was in the Earth Realm learning, they were both learning and evolving from each other.

I replied:

Binaries rearing their ugly head in spirituality too!! I have a piece brewing in me about how the soul would be defenseless without ego to protect it from time to time. Soul and ego need each other to survive the Earth Realm.
