Summary

The web content discusses the concept of syncretism in religious and spiritual beliefs, as reflected in the author's personal spiritual journey and the recent changes to Medium's publishing platform that allow for more inclusive and diverse storytelling.

Abstract

The article "Syncretism" delves into the author's perspective on the amalgamation of various religious and spiritual beliefs, emphasizing the recent enhancement of Medium's publishing features that now enable attaching responses-as-stories directly to user profiles. This feature is celebrated as it aligns with the author's syncretic approach to spirituality, which is characterized by a belief in multiple gods and the influence of personal experiences. The author, Marcus, shares his eternal soul partnership with Sitara and his descent from Hindu deities, while also acknowledging the contributions of other writers like Laxaa and White Feather, who share similar out-of-the-box spiritual thoughts. The article serves as an invitation to explore the author's other writings and the publication "ChannSpirations and Coincidences," which he co-edits with Diana C. and Anthi Psomiadou, aiming to foster a community that values synchronicities and spiritual connections.

Opinions

  • The author appreciates Medium's responsiveness to user feedback, particularly the new functionality allowing responses-as-stories to be attached to profiles.
  • Marcus believes that no god desires blind worship but rather respect, and he identifies with multiple gods across different belief systems.
  • The author values personal experiences over established religious doctrines, suggesting that once something becomes "religion," it is tainted by human additions.
  • Marcus promotes an inclusive and evolving approach to spirituality, which he sees as a journey of continuous expansion and exploration.
  • He encourages readers to engage with his and others' writings to foster a mutually soul-expanding relationship within the Medium community.
  • The author sees the act of linking to one's own writings as a means of sharing experiences and beliefs, rather than merely for monetary gain or as a cynical act.
  • Marcus introduces his publication, "ChannSpirations and Coincidences," as a platform for celebrating synchronicities and the interconnectedness of spiritual experiences.

I write this published-response, which is a new modality here on Medium,

which must have been in the works before I complained the other day in

that we could not attach responses-as-stories to our profiles, to this deep and wonderfully spiritual story by an apparent newbie to Medium, Laxaa:

Laxaa writes:

I can’t wrap myself in any one “title” because I have had too many personal experiences.

I am not saying that all “religions” are valid. I am saying no “religion” is valid. Many “religions” contain kernels of truth; aspects of God. Many “religions” lay claim to certain mystics who were undoubtedly Divinely inspired and knew God. But no “religion” has a monopoly on God precisely because once something becomes “religion” man has added earthly things to it. Earth is not Heaven. As we said when we started this chat, there is no religion in Heaven.

Syncretism

Wikipedia defines Syncretism as:

the combining of different beliefs, while blending practices of various schools of thought. Syncretism involves the merging or assimilation of several originally discrete traditions, especially in the theology and mythology of religion, thus asserting an underlying unity and allowing for an inclusive approach to other faiths.

That is the approach to Laxaa’s spiritual accumulation as described in her story.

I do not believe that any god desires worship. Respect. Not blind worship. I believe in multiple gods and have come to understand that though born into a Jewish earth-family this 17,043rd human life cycle (I think my 3 others were as elephants) of mine, I am the descendant of one Hindu God, Lord Rama, who itself is considered by Hindus an avatar of Vishnu, a member of the Hindu holy trinity. I am blessed to have a soul-partner for all of eternity, my beloved Sitara, whose higher power is the Hindu deity Kama.

So there are innumerable gods, and my relationship to the universe is under the tutelage of my four Spirit Guides and their and my higher power, Rama, and that nuance solves the dilemma you presented.

At this point, I am going to link to several of my writings, which to the cynics, I say I do not do for MPP earnings, and to those who think it is bad form to link to ones own writings in a response to another, that sentiment reeks of the same cynicism.

I link now because thanks to Dr Mehmet Yildiz, I have encountered yet another brave soul who thinks like I do, which does not mean we believe in exactly the same things, but we both dare to think and speak outside the box and believe what we believe, which is not set in stone, it constantly evolves as our souls expand. Why spend hours short-form abstracting into this response, when I can share with you my experiences and the beliefs that have evolved out of my experiences as I have explored with detail in prior essays.

Please see my and my co-editors’ (𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘊. and Anthi Psomiadou) co-creation, our publication, ChannSpirations and Coincidences, in which we celebrate synchronicities, of which my reading your story today is one, and what we call the “every-person-portal.”

Lastly, I leave you with my story describing the publication and its birth.

I am pleased to have met you and look forward to a positive and mutually soul-expanding relationship with you here on Medium and with our respective readers, which I am sure you will have many.

Welcome aboard the Magical Mystery Tour of my journey. I look forward to learning more about and from yours.

Oh and while you are at it, check out these stories by White Feather, which are very on point with yours:

In Rama I create,
