Samsung’s Upcoming Portable Cloud Gaming Projector
Samsungs Freestyle Gen 2 will be equipped with a cloud gaming feature.

In some of my past stories, I’ve chatted about different stuff regarding Samsung and cloud gaming. You can find those links at the end of this post.
But right now, let’s dive into the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2. It’s basically this cool portable projector that comes with its own cloud gaming setup. How awesome is that, right?
Samsung has taken their Freestyle projector to the next level, transforming it into a portable cloud gaming device that brings you an expansive 100-inch high-definition screen without the hassle of carrying around an actual physical screen.
The upgraded version, Freestyle Gen 2, boasts Samsung’s Gaming Hub, which grants you access to a variety of cloud gaming apps such as Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nvidia’s Geforce Now, and Amazon Luna.
If you’re familiar with the newer Samsung Smart TVs, this gaming hub will ring a bell as it’s the same one they use. To get started, all you need to do is connect a Bluetooth controller and have a subscription to one of these gaming services, and you’re good to go.
When it comes to visuals, the projector delivers crisp 1080p resolution with a refresh rate of 60Hz — a fitting choice for cloud gaming. You have the flexibility to adjust the screen size, ranging from 30 to 100 inches, depending on the surface you’re projecting onto.
But gaming is not the only trick up its sleeve; this projector is equipped with all the apps found on Samsung smart TVs, including popular ones like Hulu and Netflix. This means that after a gaming session, you can seamlessly switch to enjoying movies, TV shows, or sports events.
Concerning brightness, the Freestyle Gen 2 boasts a peak brightness of 230 ANSI Lumen, which works well for a 1080p projector. However, keep in mind that for optimal results, it’s recommended to use the projector in dimly lit environments.
To achieve this, you might want to consider investing in some blackout curtains. The projector features a micro-HDMI port that allows you to connect a laptop or console, but you may need an adapter to ensure all the connections fit together.
The Freestyle Gen 2 doesn’t just focus on top-notch visuals; it also aims for user-friendly operation with its ‘Easy Setup’ feature. This innovative feature automatically levels focuses, and optimizes the picture quality, reducing the need for complex adjustments.
While we haven’t had a chance to personally test this feature, it’s definitely a welcome addition, primarily if you’ve dealt with the frustrations of setting up a projector for gaming in the past.
For those adventurous souls who find themselves in remote locations like the woods, Samsung offers a battery base option for $190. This accessory could be a game-changer, allowing you to stream Xbox games while nestled against a sturdy tree.
However, Samsung hasn’t disclosed the battery’s size, so it’s unclear how long it will last before needing a recharge. This is a crucial factor to consider before splurging on the battery base.
As you peruse the product images, you might notice the absence of an Ethernet port on the projector. Since the device relies on your Wi-Fi connection for streaming, your streaming and gaming experience will largely depend on the strength of your Wi-Fi signal.
If your home setup needs a boost in this regard, it could be a good opportunity to explore the top gaming routers currently available on the market.
Ready to make its debut on September 1, the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 with Gaming Hub comes with a price tag of $799.99. However, if you’re an early bird and pre-order now, Samsung sweetens the deal by including a special travel case at no extra cost.
With offerings like the Steam Deck, this projector, and LG’s unique suitcase TV, it’s safe to say that there has never been a more exciting time to indulge in video games under the open sky.
