RuPaul and Friends: Quarantine Sonnet for M.

With many thanks to the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race

We met, but Covid meant we couldn’t go hang out with friends and plan queer double-dates to cabarets or boozy brunch drag shows. We cooked each other dinners, which we ate

with RuPaul’s Drag Race giving us a cast of friends who kept us company all night smiling through painful stories from the past to tell us — Girl! it’s gonna be all right.

Bianca, Latrice, DeLa, Jinkx Monsoon, Sharon Needles, Raven, Nina Flowers— we watched you fly to, to, to, to the moon. We let the music play, stayed up all hours.

If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell…? We hoped you’d never lipstick your farewell.

This story is a response to the Prism & Pen writing prompt, Let’s Talk About Drag! Pro, Con, in Between.
